He’s right about absolutely everything.
BUT ... the ‘play along’ MO is not new!
Where and when it has been adopted (it seems Liberals exact this perennially its like a STANDING Liberal requirement) it has cost Conservatives taxpayers more money AND diminished the Conservative position.
Much as I like this author, I feel that he has NO concept of how this rankles with Conservatives and NOT just with Tea Party types. Conservatives have reached the saturation point with the kind of Liberal tyranny we are AGAIN being invited to accommodate.
I realize that force of circumstance is everything here but hasnt this ALWAYS been their justification when politicians ask for further and more compromising complicity in policies and programs which are totally inconsistent with Conservative beliefs? NOW, we feel like it is finally asking TOO MUCH!!
Conservative complicity in this buys us a seat on the bus yet we are always threatened with being tossed off the bus because we haggle over the surrender of ever more principle for the sake of political expediency.
Charles needs to see that SOME Conservatives feel like theyre against the wall here.
Boehner knows, probably more than just about anybody, just how much can be accomplished with the current situation and he probably got the best deal possible.”
It’s not apparent to me at all that he has a deal. What is apparent, is that he is trying to muscle the Tea Party with hopes of sort of salvaging a deal (incidentally, a deal which is DOA on arrival in the Senate). So...just exactly what has Boehner done here which is so brilliant, and the best of all possible worlds?
“If you want a better deal, give the Republicans more seats, and in both houses.
Then youll get a better deal.”
That is painfully obvious and no one is disputing that.
The only question in front of us for today, is how to deal with the present crisis, and to cause as little damage as possible....including, not whipping the Tea Party Caucus to take a vote that will piss off their constituents and cause them to lose re-election....which would be a real step backwards, seeing as they are the only ones who appear to know WTF is going on in the real world.
This is the first that I’ve ever seen National Review required to be excerpted. Is this new?
Your are right that the Hammer said those things. But what I like about Charles is that when wrong he will correct himself.
Oh, I pray for that daily. Unfortunately, short of an act of God, we just kissed it goodbye last night.
The author is syndicated by the Washington post. This piece first appeared there.
Nope. The House controls.
But, Krauthammer always supports Obama and the DNC
rather than America, the GOP, or conservatives.
Makes himself a honeypot for the MSM.
And your non-solution observation helps how?
What part of Charles artilcle do you disagree with?
Duh. My bad. And I just excerpted another National Review article that I didn’t need to.
>>>>>I have every sympathy with the conservative counterrevolutionaries.
sounds good, but that’s not what he says at 3:37 p.m. and later on faux news.
Then youll get a better deal.
LOL! How soon people forget. The Republicans held all three houses during part of Bush's time in office and boy did we roll back big government then, eh?
Screw Republicans, get actual conservatives more seats.
" ... is not just counter-constitutional in spirit but self-destructive in practice."
I completely disagree with chuck saying "counter-constitutional" as well. That is totally false. I also am well aware of his previous nonconservative positions on a host of issues. However, I'm merely considering the political strategy suggested in the article and whether we may be "self-destructive" here. Given the impact of a technical 'default' on the economy and how 0bama and his sycophantic media will use it to negatively taint GOP candidates for all offices in 2012, I'm persuaded that an 'all-or-nothing' strategy in this small battle of the much larger war, isn't worth the harm to our cause. We need to be as strong as possible for the 2012 war.
You give the general electorate of this country way too much credit. Unfortunately, they aren't very smart since most were educated in government schools.
If you are correct, it doesn't matter what the Republicans do, because they will be blamed.
If the Republicans hold the line, I think it far more likely that the stock market will go up rather than down. Other than the debt, which must be paid Constitutionally, the Obama administration will control the disbursement of funds, so the Republicans are in a stronger position to blame Obama for how the funds are disbursed.
I think we are at a critical point in the media wars. The MSM has been losing credibility since 1994, at least. The new media has been gaining. It seems to take longer for the new media to get points across to the public, but they seem to get across. That is how we won the house in 2010.

Yes, but NO! Take one step back and look at another part of the Big Picture. It is denying reality to think that you can spend more than your income. Liberalism, or whatever you want to call it, is based on an impossible view of reality. Moronic stupidity wrapped with misguided 'Good Intentions.'
I agree with CK.
Pocket the wins now. Fight again another day.
The Tea Party has won the argument, for anyone paying attention.
AMEN!
They may have had a majority, but they didn’t have a veto-proof majority at the time.
Let’s hope they do. In 2012.
