WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republican Herman Cain is apologizing to Muslim leaders for vitriolic remarks he made about Islam while campaigning for the presidential nomination.
The former Godfather's Pizza CEO has said communities have a right to ban Islamic mosques because Muslims are trying to inject sharia law into the U.S.

Cain is a huge disappointment.
What Muslims are saying that they are not trying to inject sharia law into the U.S. and have proof. I’m just dying to know.
Hope his pizza had more weight than this dismal Presidential campaign. We already have one guy who apologizes to the Japanese for Pearl Harbor, we don’t need another.
Islam is almost uniquely a problem among world religions because it contains an imperative to take over the world by force. It’s a do-it-yourself eschatology, not one that waits on a divine hand to show itself in miracles, which by definition no man could deny. Nominal Muslims may not go far enough to take that literally, however large groups of them “find religion” every year.
Even Satanism is easier to live with.
Not to mention Christians. Or Jews...or anyone who will not convert to Islam...
Herman is done.
As a conservative and a patriotic American who believes in the Constitution and our American culture, I completely understand where Cain was coming from when he made his initial remarks.
That said, he was speaking as a presidential candidate, and what he said was politically dangerous to his campaign’s prospects. Not saying I agree with that, but it’s the way it is.
That was his first mistake.
Back-peddling and apologizing for so boldly speaking his mind, is his second mistake. In national politics, the second mistake is practically suicidal. Remember Nixon and his wife Pat’s coat? He barely got away with that, but it’s about the level of smooth that a politician needs, to get past Mistake One.
Say it isn’t so!
Better to Cain reveal his weakness towards Muslim sensitivities is unveiled now rather than after a nomination or election into presidential capacity.
I continue to admire Mr. Herman Cain for his achievements, but in good conscience, I cannot support his further pursuit towards nomination as GOP’s 2012 presidential candidate. Good luck with non-presidential endeavors, Mr. Cain. Godspeed.
The role of Sharia is to supplant and replace all other government and place islam as the dominant force wherever they are allowed to take root. Thus, it is in direct competition with our own constitution. To give it rights under religion is entirely wrong.... and thats what Cain and others need to learn.
It is antithetical to democracy as we know it.
It is invasive like a cancer and it WILL KILL the host.
This is the AP, color me suspicious of an ‘apology’.
