If Keith Fournier, a very prominent Catholic (who, by the way, supports Rick Santorum, not Sarah Palin) and Bill Donohue of the Catholic League are calling on Michele Bachmann to explain her membership in such a church, she had better pay attention to it. This is not going away.

What if it was Fournier who was running for something and the question was something that the non-Roman church he “used to go to” preaches?

The onus on the accuser is not to keep on throwing out of context barbs. Can not one identify what church Michelle Bachmann attends now?

I am a Catholic and a supporter. Just don’t believe there is a bigoted bone in her body.

And she is the best shot conservatives have, including Palin. She is not a feminist, but ‘pro man and woman’.

What are we going to nominate, Romney?

Prior to Vatican II, i.e. when JFK was running for President, Protestants could not go to heaven by Roman Catholic doctrine. Why are you guys trying to pillory her on this at this late date?

In Congress, Catholic Democrats outnumber Catholic Republicans more than 2-1. Catholics are far over-represented in Congress in comparison to their percentage of the whole population. We’ve seen more than enough of that in government.

All too true, but what Donohue (whom I generally respect) and the others are doing is stupidly destructive. From a policy point of view, a Bachman presidency would advance the major social objectives of the Church. If we get mired in what Roman Catholics and Protestants have said about each over since the the Thirty Years War, Obamalini and his friends will be thrilled. Bachman poses no threat at all to the Church. Dohohue should have been smart enough to figure this out - and he normally is very shrewd.

Wisconsin Synod (WELS) is perhaps the most conservative Lutheran body in America. Luther himself identified the "papacy" as the antichrist, and that was never recanted. The problem is that self-absorbed would-be big-shots like Fournier see this and think in terms of Hollywood movies, not the realities faced by Luther.

Honest Catholics who also know their history understand that the Papacy had becom a worldly corrupt institution, little concerned with anything but enrichment and power. When the pope excommunicated Luther and put a price on his head, simply for trusting scripture more than a gaggle of fraudulent cardinals, he earned a little payback. Whether any WELS member believes this today seems to be of historic interest only. I thought we got past this shit with Jack Kennedy, but I guess not.

So . . . this means that Wisconsin Synod Lutherans shouldn't be eligible for the Presidency?

How about Missouri Synod Lutherans? They still officially subscribe to the idea that the Pope is the "antichrist," right? Maybe they should be disqualified from office as well.

While we're at it, I'm sure there are Jews who resent people who believe they're going to hell because they aren't "saved." Why don't we make sure no one who has ever been a member of any church that believes only chr*stians are "saved" ever gets elected to anything?

People are such crybabies today!

This is just some liberal Catholic outriders who have no problem supporting “Catholics” Pelosi, Kerry, Kennedy, Leahy, Mikulski, etc., etc., when they help abort millions of babies and reward law-breaking illegal aliens.

Bachman or Obama - which one would you want sitting in judgment on you if you were a Catholic?

This isn’t going away because the Left isn’t going to let it. My boyfriend is Catholic and a Conservative, so I don’t need any retort for what I’m about to say. Not all Catholics are Conservative. There are many in the church who support the Democrats. While there might be more than a few Democrats who are good folks of faith, there are many who aren’t. I don’t know where this story came from, but I find it hard to believe that a Lutheran of any sect would believe that the Pope, any pope, is the anti-Christ. Bachmann sure doesn’t.

Oh boy..... The Primary is weeding them out. This could definitely cause Michele problems down the road. And, poor Herman Cain can't keep from putting his foot in his mouth. IMO.........
THE ONLY CANDIDATE WHO HAS BEEN VETTED "TO THE MAX" IS SARAH PALIN. WHAT OTHER LIE CAN THEY COME UP WITH? WHAT IS THERE TO FIND? NOTHING!!! IF SARAH IS OUR NOMINEE.........NO "OCTOBER SURPRISE".

It should go away. I am Catholic, but I am not offended by this at all. Rick Santorum is a well-meaning guy, but he doesn’t know what he’s doing politically, and does harm to hiw own side. Bill Donahue is an anti-Catholic, pro-homosexual activist who is a lunatic. Bachmann is way better for the Catholic Church than Donahue. Bachmann should be held accountable for hiring Ed Rollins.

Wow, as a former Luther’s Small Catechism carrying member of the LCA, ELCA, and later, LCMS, this doesn’t bother me at all. I am a Roman Catholic now, but all my conservative relatives, and a few liberals are still Lutherans.

Didn’t something like 58% of Catholics vote for Obama?
