CROWN POINT | When Atlantis takes off on the last U.S. space shuttle mission Friday, there will be a few local paramecium on board, thanks to students at tiny Avicenna Academy.

"This project is important because it tests a very important issue -- the struggle for existence," said student Maria Khan in a student blog about the space shuttle experiment she helped design as a fifth-grader at Avicenna Academy.

"It's a wonderful experience," Principal Amanda Arceo said as she headed to Kennedy Space Center in Florida to witness the launch along with four students who developed the experiment for the Student Spaceflight Experiment Program.

Heading to a reserved viewing area for the scheduled 10:26 a.m. launch along with Arceo are Heba Abuzer, Amalia Hosken, Ayesha Zubair and Sarah Suleiman.

Abuzer and Jenna Rifai, who recently completed sixth grade, were the primary principal investigators, while Hosken, Zubair, Maria Khan and Sabriya Umrani served as co-investigators as fifth-graders, and Suleiman and Ameer Rifai were fourth-grade assistants.

*** “This project is important because it tests a very important issue — the struggle for existence,” said student Maria Khan ***

They’ve designed paramecium that will suicide bomb other paramecium?!

I’d bet a dollar to a doughnut that more deserving experiments were passed over to accommodate this muslim outreach.

Feel good story. 1

Accurate reporting of the vile anti-U.S. rhetoric coming from the podium of Mosques across the nation? 0

Is this sort of thing limited to Islamic Mosques? No. Barack Hussein Obama can vouch for that. He spent twenty years watching a man spew such rhetoric from a Christian podium. And then he said, “I didn’t notice any anti-U.S. rhetoric.”

No, to him it was merely the truth, not unfair or unreasoned at all.

Sorry little girl, I’m not a big fan of what is taking place in our nation. Feel good stories don’t even come close to making up for it.

How precious! One lower life form experimenting with another.

Where is PETA when you need them.

Indiana Islamic school "develops space shuttle experiment"

How to fashionably wear a suicide vest under a spacesuit?

The first burka spacesuit?

Wearing a turban under a helmet?

How to face mecca from space?

Is this part of 0bama's muzzie outreach that NASA has been reduced to?

Who picked THIS experiment for the shuttle mission?
Was it given fair weighting against other experiments, or was it part of NASA’s new “Muslim Outreach” mission?

Sorry to question the validity of these students’ project, but that’s what happens with “equal opportunity” and “outreach” programs. The products themselves tend to become suspect.
