This is great for gaining perspective.

Since the Lincoln/Douglas debates lasted ALL day, with Douglas first “debating” many hours, then intermission while folks went home for dinner, then EVERYBODY returns, and listens intently to Lincoln till late evening... and now we are reduced to 10 to 30 second gibberish lasting a total of 2 hours a mere 150 years later....

What could the presidential debates of 2160 possible evolve to?

Perhaps it will just be a bunch of grunts and “mmmmooaaahh’s”.

Buzzers with choices of A or B, with candidates choosing between the 2.

For the Republicans -
Nuclear war or Cancer?
Blind or Deaf?

Sort of like Final Jeopardy. And then maybe follow up questions. Tell me Senator, why do you like Cancer so much?
I’m surprised they didn’t ask “why do you hate Pepsi, or Iphone, of Dancing with the Stars”

For the Democrats -
Puppies or Kittens?
Rainbows or Unicorns?

What occurred last night was NOT a debate. It was a TV show. A debate consists of two parties, each defending their view of a proposal. “We should do “A” because...or We should not do “A” because” That crap they now call a debate isn’t even an acceptable substitute in a Rio Linda middle school.

There wont be a USA in 2160, at least in its present form.

This Republic was lost when all of the groups the Founders warned against were given the vote in the 20th century.

Can't possibly survive imbeciles voting in marxists into the WH every other election cycle.

A catastrophic economic collapse followed by civil war, destruction of the federal government in DC, and realignment of the states into several different countries is coming in the near future.

The basic format of the Lincoln-Douglas debates could still be used today. Since there is no Democrat gentlemanly enough to participate in them, however, the trick would be to get two Republican candidates who would hold small, polite debates designed for substance, not flash.

While many people do not have long attention spans, there are still many that do. Imagine a debate with no moderator, in which two candidates would go into great detail about a subject, say illegal immigration.

The format could be difficult. In each speech, one candidate would speak for 15 minutes, then the other would speak for 15, then the first would again speak for 15 and the second for the final 15.

They would need to give extended background on the subject, possible alternatives being considered, and then state what they prefer the outcome to be.

I like a classic debate—not one of these pop question sound bite photo opts.
