Facebook has quietly expanded the availability of technology to automatically identify people in photos, renewing concerns about the privacy practices of the world's top social networking service.

The feature, which Facebook automatically enabled for Facebook users, has been expanded from the United States to "most countries", Facebook said on its official blog on Tuesday.

Just quit Facebook. They are helping to reelect Barry. It is a waste of time anyway.

What if it makes a mistake? What if my name is Tom or Harry, but Facebook identifies me as a Dick — or as a NY Congressman?

I’ve never been on Facebook, quit MySpace a long time ago along with LinkedIn, but I have family and friends on all 3. If my face is mixed in with pictures from Christmas or a BBQ, will it be able to identify me? That’s the real concern here, IMHO; those of us who want to be off that grid being sold out by those who are.
