A newly developed pair of drugs has been shown to be successful in the treatment of the deadly skin cancer melanoma.
Designed by Bristol-Myers and Roche, to work in different ways, the drugs vemurafenib and Yervoy have successfully treated late-stage patients who, according to WebMD had precious few options in the past.
Dr. James Larkin worked on the trials of both drugs and said this is the first advancement in melanoma treatment since the 1970s.
This makes these the first drugs to prolong survival from a type of cancer that claims the lives of more than one in 10 of its victims.
According to the National Cancer Institute almost 70,000 people a year are diagnosed with melanoma and 8,700 of those die from the disease.

2 New Drugs May Treat Advanced Melanoma
Studies Show Yervoy and Vemurafenib Improve Survival in Melanoma Patients
EXCERPT:
Two new drugs that work in very different ways are being hailed as game changers in the treatment of patients with advanced forms of the deadly skin cancer melanoma.
New studies of the experimental drug vemurafenib and the newly approved drug Yervoy (ipilimumab) were published online in the New England Journal of Medicine and also presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in Chicago.
The studies show that the two drugs can improve survival in patients who have had few treatment options in the past.
“In advanced melanoma we really haven’t had good treatments,” says Petra Rietschel, MD, PhD, who directs the Melanoma/Sarcoma Program at Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care in New York City. She was not involved with the studies.
“There hasn’t been anything, ever, that was proven to prolong survival, and now we have two drugs and probably more on the way,” she says.
Who thinks of these names??? Why not just call it V12879 or something
Enjoy this while you can. Once Obamacare takes over, there won’t be any more drug research.
rub some on a Weiner?
Good to know.. I’ve had skin cancer 5 times.. I go to the dermatologist all the time for a complete check up.. I’ve had face peels and chunks-O-skin frozen, burned, scraped, and cut off...
My doctor says my skin ‘scares’ him and I have to go in if I have any skin aberration that doesn’t clear up in 2 weeks..
good to know new stuff is out there.. I’m like a mushroom, I only go out at night..

“This makes these the first drugs to prolong survival from a type of cancer that claims the lives of more than one in 10 of its victims” ~ or maybe NOT.
Search for “Rick Simpson and natural cancer cure”
for all types of cancer too.
It's like a weird game of Scrabble.
"Yervoy".
"Hey, that's not a word!"
"Sure it is."
"Use it in a sentence."
I hope these new drugs help you. My sister-in-law had one and she’s okay so far -— it was a bad one -— and I have hope for her now.
With Obamacare no one will get this new drug. It will be too expensive and your life years are not worth it. Then the private insurer takes the lead from Medicare and it will not be on their formulary. Only Congressmen who are all millionaires will get it if they need it. Not the general public
Advertising. It’s easier to say a made up word than a series of numbers and letters.
Provasic (RDU-90)
I don’t think that you can copyright a number or use it as a brand name.
And then since there are too few rich folks needing the drug to recoup development costs, no new drugs will be developed, and the congress-critters die of disease too.
The pharmaceutical companies cannot develop drugs for such a small population, and expect to stay in business. So new and innovative drugs will not be available for rich people, either. It costs too much to discover and develop medicines.

This is just another reason to scrap Obamacare. We want research into cancer cures (and others) to continue. And we want the drugs to be available to us if we need them.
