Man killed in SWAT raid was under investigation 20 months, sheriff says

The man killed in a SWAT team raid last month had been under investigation by The Pima County Sheriff’s Department for 20 months as part of a major drug and homicide investigation, Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said Tuesday during an editorial meeting with the Star. But details of the investigation into Jose Guerena’s activities won’t be released because a criminal informant for the sheriff’s department could be in danger, Dupnik said. “There’s a chance that our informant is going to get killed,” he said. Guerena died after SWAT officers fired 71 rounds from the front door of his home in the 7100 block of South Redwater Drive, while serving a search warrant on May 5, department officials have said. Guerena was shot 22 times and died at the scene, according to a preliminary report by the Pima County Medical Examiner’s Office. See Wednesday's Arizona Daily Star for more of this story.

Then they should have known about the storage unit and raided it.

Hummm,... could be they have a problem with their "informant", like he's been conning 'em, and they only figured it out after the raid.

Now what to do? Can't have him admit to passing bad information, or to say he gave 'em a different address than the one they raided. Yep the informant is in danger.

Does anyone really believe Clarence “The Clown” Dupnik, Arizona's answer to Barney Fyfe?

“So they shoulda been able to a) find some evidence, and b) arrest him without killing him”

Thats how I see it. After 20 months of investigation they should have known his habits.

Why isn’t Dupa under investigation for letting Jared run loose?

Who did mommy know who ‘pulled strings’ to keep him out of jail.

The day after the shootings it was all over the news- that the police knew about him but let him go time after time because “there would be trouble” because someone in the family worked for the government

Who did mommy talk to to keep her little psychopath out of jail???

No, it's Sarah Palin’s fault.

Man killed in SWAT raid was under investigation 20 months, sheriff says

Then they knew everything about this guy, including his full time mining job.

Why did they just not hook him up at work, while walking to his vehicle after work, while at the same time, serve a warrant on his home?

How simple and safe is that?

I agree.

I’m on record as having said that, whatever the known facts are about this man, he wasn’t a SWAT case.

Dupnik said

Revealing statement. I believe absolutely nothing that dufus says, NOTHING. He was the idiot that blamed Congressman Giffords shooting on the Tea Party, with absolutely no evidence. He is a total political Hack.

Forgive my ignorance on this case; but, if there was a search warrant, why is it not public record?

Or, if it IS public record; is it accessible online anywhere?

Just curious, but does anyone know who would investigate a Sheriff’s department? Is it the county or the state AG? Or both?

I guess the reason it is sealed is because they killed someone while executing the warrant. Otherwise, wouldn’t it have to be public? They sealed it after the fact. Not before. So why the need for sealing it after the fact unless they found more evidence than they have released?

absolutely.
...i was reading this from the first story here, and from the beginning, it smelled worse than the COSTCO murder of the West Point graduate.
John McCain, and Brewer, etc. should have been calling for an honest INDEPENDENT investigation into this long ago.
from the start, the Sheriff has been changing their story, and telling outright lies.
the murdered a brave vet, abused his wife, endangered the child who was sleeping with him only seconds before SWAT opened fire, and they continue to lie and slander them.
in fact, if even Obama would step in and do the right thing here, instead of playing golf, i’d actually think of more of him than zero.

Right...just like there was a chance the informant was lying to beat a rap...

They've already released part of the raid video, and they continue to want to keep other evidence confidential?

All while leaking out a bit at a time?

Something reeks.

My hunch is they didn't find enough dirt under this guys fingernails and now they're sweating.

Interesting bit of information I had not read before:

“Mr Guerena served two tours of duty in Iraq, until he left the Marines in 2006. He had been working for a mining company in the Tucson area.”

From: The Daily Mail UK

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1391567/Iraq-war-vet-Jose-Guerena-did-open-SWAT-team-killed-him.html#ixzz1NzHFc8kh

I was wondering how long he had been out of the Marine Corps. If Dumbo the police chief had been investigating him 20 months, I was wondering how long he had been back from the sandpile.

“...it is good strategy to not keep illegal property on your property...”
-
How do you define “illegal property” and what the ‘FORK’ are you talking about?
