ALBANY, NY -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo's administration has ordered an expanded environmental review of proposed "hydrofracking" for natural gas in New York after a well in Pennsylvania spilled chemical-laced water for two days.
An internal memo obtained by The Associated Press directs the state Department of Environmental Conservation to review and learn any lessons from the April accident in Pennsylvania's Bradford County.
A creek was polluted and homes were evacuated.
The review will include an on-site inspection by New York officials.

Some companies use a citrus extract as a fracking fluid. Once the sadists in the environmental movement fully understand this that one potential solution may be to pump foods stuffs underground and thereby increasing the cost of many staple foods -they may well turn on a dime and demand high concentrate citrus hydrofracking!
Anybody remember ethanol? You dont need corn to make government cheese and you dont need oranges either.
Ping.
The big government left does not want American citizens to enjoy prosperity, jobs and reasonably priced energy.
Fracking for natural gas and oil can unlock deposits the size of Saudi Arabia right here in the USA. In a few years we could reduce our dependence on oil imports from countries and people that hate us, but love our dollars. One stinking well that overflowed some stuff while drilling is not the reason to stop fracking or over regulate it. The ground water scare they use is also bad science to stop fracking.
Chemical laced water....All water has chemicals. Let’s be a bit more specific. Our water exceeded limits for year sand our city water came via lead pipes. My parents drank it for 50 years at least. Mom lived to 90.
They goal is to eliminate all domestic sources of energy and make the US completely dependent upon external sources.
Cheap Energy = General Prosperity, and that's the last thing they want.
And what chemical was it? Was it actually harmful or are the brownshirts just using "chemical" for "danger" all the time now?
Dear Gov. Andrew Cuomo,
The University of Oklahoma graduates several petroleum engineers every semester.
HIRE ONE.
You can hire a Black, Hispanic, Female, Gay one, if it’ll make you feel any better; but hire one and listen to ‘em.
That way, maybe you won’t sound like a FRACing (yes, it’s spelled “FRACing”)IDIOT.
Just trying to help,

Sure would like to see an authentic tear down evaluation as to what would have happened if the evacuation wasn't forced upon the residents without the words "could" "May" "possible" or "perhaps" being used.
No, this “FRACKING” is much too dangerous to be used by northeasterners. We will continue to use fracturing down here and sell the oil and gas at the current world prices to the ones who fear fracing.
Thanks Fitzy_888.
“our city water came via lead pipes. “
I have replaced lead home service lines in Cleveland. The inside of the pipes were covered with mineral deposits. There was no way the water was in contact with the lead pipe. But levels may have been high when the lines were first laid.
I’ve run a public water supply for almost 30 years. We add a very small amount of phosphate to the water to balance out it’s acidity. Get the correct ph balance.
About “stuff” in the water;
We may be able to remove 99.99% of the “stuff” and have the water still be affordable, and we’re talking about parts per billion. But to remove that last .01%? Could be grossly costly to the consumers who have to pay for it! Like the people freakin’ about pharms in the water! They don’t realize that they’d have to drink an olympic-sized swimming pool full of water every day to get a daily dosage of whatever pharm they’re worried about.
Oooooh! I SEE, NOW! It’s a Profit Thing! [Think of Steve Martin in “The Jerks’” carnival booth scene.}
I am such an idiot!
uh ... Yeah. ngat, is absolutely right. You Yankees don’t want to live in a poluted land like us poor saps in the north half of Texas and just about all of Oklahoma. We will make the sacrifice “for the good of the country”. ;)

{I owed the previous post an “L”.)
Most of our imported oil comes from Canada not from the middle East, stop acting as if it did. Nuke the Arabs and be done with them.
37% of our total petroleum products comes from Canada and Mexico.
There's no easier way for him to get that money than from a booming natural gas industry in New York State. This is the first ray of sunshine for upstate's economy in three decades. He'd best figure out a way to mollify the enviro-nazis and keep it going.
Bingo. From what I can tell, allowable levels tend to track measurement limits, and not, say, one-tenth of threshold of possible harm levels.
Most sounds like more than 50%. Canada provides 22% of our oil. We get 45% from OPEC.
