Ex-49er Coffee: NFL 'ruins lives,' but I'd return if Lord says so

Glen Coffee abruptly walked away from his NFL career in August, saying he wanted to focus on his Christian faith. The former San Francisco 49ers running back still isn't enamored with the NFL lifestyle, but he won't rule out returning to the game.

Actually, he's back, sort of, playing linebacker in a semipro football league in his native Florida while taking online classes at the University of Alabama, where he starred before going to the 49ers in the third round of the 2009 draft.

I started to make a smart azz comment then read the entire piece - he sounds like a guy with his head on straight. I wish he could have a better way to explain gun ownership because he’s on the right track - and belief in God has nothing to do with it. Good article - I hope he finds something in life where he can be happy.

He’s wise to go wherever God wants him to go. For some that might be back on the gridiron. I’d like to see more Christian professional athletes. For others that might be to go minister in Timbuktu or wherever. He’s probably sitting pretty moneywise right now, and may have ideas of where he wants to invest it.

Maybe a walk-on at Denver is in his future. Tebow now owns the team, emotionally.
