Judicial nominee Goodwin Liu faces filibuster showdown

Senate Republicans are poised Thursday to use a filibuster to block the confirmation of law professor Goodwin Liu to an appellate court. * * * In moving to block Liu, Republicans are warning President Obama that his next Supreme Court nominee is likely to face a more difficult path to confirmation than did his first two selections. “If we prevail, it ought to send a signal that the White House ought to send up people who are more mainstream,” Sen. Charles E. Grassley (Iowa), the ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee, said Wednesday. Grassley predicted that he had the votes lined up to block Liu from being confirmed. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) judged that the vote, scheduled for 2 p.m., would be “very tight.”

his NEXT SCOTUS choice? Doesn’t this basically assume that he is re-elected in 2012? I don’t know of anyone announcing their retirement before then...

They wouldn't do that if it were Lucy Liu

It could be a signal to liberal justices such as Ruth Bader Ginsburg to sit tight and not retire yet. She’s 79 years old and has had health problems. But she might not want to retire before the 2012 election if she thought Barack couldn’t appoint a good ACLU acolyte such as herself as a replacement.

I hope there are no retirements before the 2012 election, and that a new president will appoint the next Supreme Court justice.

Looks like even Lindsey Graham is against him so I think Liu has no chance.

Reid may have scheduled the vote just to remove Liu as an issue during next year’s election.

I sure the usual RINO suspects will swoop in at the last minute and snatch defeat out of the jaws of Republican victory.

““If we prevail, it ought to send a signal that the White House ought to send up people who are more mainstream,” Sen. Charles E. Grassley (Iowa)”

The Obamegotist will never meet such a challenge Sen. Grassley. He will just get pissed off, and send in a loonier Left wing loon than Goodwin Liu just to be obstinate. There is a stubborn child factor we are facing here as well as idiot.

Sounds like the Republicans held.

Collins, McCain, Graham, Lugar, Snowe, Brown, Toomey all NO.

Waiting on final tally though.

Notice the phrase “Republicans are warning President Obama that his next Supreme Court nominee is likely to face a more difficult path to confirmation...”

Well! Ain’t that something? The “go along to get along” party uses the threat “LIKELY” to scare Obama. What the hell did the words “WILL, ABSOLUTELY, ETC... “ disappear from their vocabulary?

By the way, why didn’t they use those words in Obama’s two newly appointed Marxist/communist/American hating justices to the Supreme Court instead of rolling over so that now laws can be legislated from the bench and power taken from the people?

The GOP is a bunch of lifer, timid, naive, self-serving bast@#ds that only care about themselves and not our nation and the protection of the Constitution.

Let’s be sure to vote for them again next time.

When you climb back in off the ledge you’ll notice Republicans defeated the nomination.

Yep! The Republicans really did a number to defeat the placement of Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.

Hat’s off to them.
