his NEXT SCOTUS choice? Doesn’t this basically assume that he is re-elected in 2012? I don’t know of anyone announcing their retirement before then...

It could be a signal to liberal justices such as Ruth Bader Ginsburg to sit tight and not retire yet. She’s 79 years old and has had health problems. But she might not want to retire before the 2012 election if she thought Barack couldn’t appoint a good ACLU acolyte such as herself as a replacement.

I hope there are no retirements before the 2012 election, and that a new president will appoint the next Supreme Court justice.

Not necessarily - we have to hold our breath, hope and pray that our conservatives SC Justices stay alive and healthy for the next year and a half!!!
