BRIDGETON, N.J. (AP) — An illegal immigrant convicted of fatally beating his girlfriend's infant daughter four years ago has been sentenced to 30 years in state prison.
Cumberland County prosecutors say Randi Lopez-Rivas killed 3-month-old Kimberly Lopez while baby-sitting the child in her mother's Vineland apartment while she worked. He then put the body in a garbage bag and stuffed it behind a basement laundry unit.

An autopsy determined the child had sustained blunt force trauma.
Lopez-Rivas — a Guatemalan native who was 18 when the killing occurred in April 2007— was later found at a Camden bus terminal. He eventually was convicted of murder.
When he's freed from prison, the now 22-year-old Lopez-Rivas will have to serve five years of supervised release. Authorities say he also will likely face a deportation hearing.

Of course, if you could get a Guatemalan prison to house Lopez-Rivas, I'm sure the people of NJ would be happy not to pay for his incarceration.
This is also another sad example of "mommy's new boyfriend" being the among scariest words a chid can hear.
With how things are going, he'll be pardoned and running for President in 30 years.
Kill a baby just before it is born.

This puts me on the verge.
I'm sure the people of NJ wouldn't mind if they had to pay the cost of incarcerating him in Guatemala. Even if you add in the donation to the correctional officer's benevolent fund to ensure he served hard time, it would still be cheaper and a great deal less fun for him than keeping him in a US prison.
Actually, I think you have a great idea there. What would you think of outsourcing all of our correctional work?

True justice would consist in Senorito Lopez getting the same treatment he afforded his victim.
Vendome’s version of a just and proper punishment:
I would have chained his hands and legs, then pulled him up four flights of metal fire escape stairs, feet first.
Then I would have kicked him in the family jewels just enough to cause a stomach ache every 15 minutes for 2 hours.
After that I would push him out a window letting him fall four stories into a pile of razor wire 5 rolls high and 5 rolls wide.
He could lay in the pile of razor wire for two days in the desert sun and then I would release a flock of crows and 1 gallon of scarabs right next to him.
But that’s just me.
