Republicans are warning President Obama not to issue an executive order that would require government contractors to disclose their political donations.
Obama drafted the proposal last month, which is reminiscent of a provision in a Democratic bill called the Disclose Act that died in the Congress last year.
But in a letter to the president, California Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the No. 3 Republican in the House, said Obama's proposed order "seems like a blatant attempt to intimidate, and potentially silence, certain speakers who are engaged in their constitutionally protected right to free speech."
Twenty other Republicans signed the letter, which expresses their concern that the effect of the proposed order would be "stifled political speech, as potential and current federal contractors decide to limit their political speech in order to protect their livelihoods.

Obama has put on the brass knuckles, the republicans are still wearing gloves.
ZERO TOLERANCE FOR MARXISTS IN US GOVERNMENT.
Pass a bill to tax all government employee pensions over 30k by 50%. Lets see how they would like us getting some of our tax dollars back.
Rule by fiat. Do away with that pesky constitution.
Don't argue with him.
We can’t get rid of the pos Kenyan soon enough. We have to beat him in Nov 2012
Instability belongs to those who hold the a dam with obstinately incompetent builders obstinate at keeping their builder position no matter what.
A true progressive, it's about time we divest ourselves of the idiocy of "living and breathing" constitution BS and just get rid of it so we can "progress" via TelePrompter.
Oooooooo! Republicans are warning Obama? What? That they’ll TP the Congress if he does whatever he wants by executive order? Obama must be shaking in his boots. /S
...would require government contractors to disclose their political donations.
Democrats run the country into the ground and maybe to its end with deficits but threaten Republican campaign contributions from contractors living at the teat of government and Republicans find their spine.
Got it.
X-zactly
I have often wondered, is there a way to legally override a presidential executive order? I know congress can cut funding, but there must be a better way otherwise any president can rule by just issuing executive orders.
If not, the framers of our constitution sure left a big hole dangling for anyone unscrupulous enough to take advantage.
That's going to be hard to do with so many conservatives looking for perfection for their own nominee.
Not to get off topic or lost in all the hullabaloo of knocking off bin Laden ~ honestly, I was all for it ~ but what would have happened if President Bush or President McCain or President Palin had issued a kill order on public enemy number one, who had been hiding out in a sovereign foreign country?
What happened to the old Toricelli amendment which made it illegal to terminate political enemies or heads of state or to assassinate enemies of the US?? Has that been lifted or changed or is that simply inconvenient to Obumbles.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for getting bin Laden. I simply can’t help but wonder what might happen to any Republican had done the same thing?
Chris Matthews and Rachel Maddow and John Stewart would be screaming from the rooftops.
Don’t ya think??
Senator Obama would be demanding impeachment proceedings.
