NATO Strike Kills 12 Libyan Rebels in Misurata (Oooops! NATO hits their Al-Qaeda Allies)

NATO warplanes attacked a rebel position on the front lines of this besieged city here on Wednesday, killing 12 fighters in what the rebels called a friendly fire accident.

The rebels, who did not want to be identified for security reasons, were at first reluctant to admit the accident had occurred, not wanting to discourage further strikes against the forces of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi. The pace of NATO strikes had picked up noticeably in recent days, after rebel leaders complained of a lack of support in the weeks after the United States turned over operational control of the air campaign to NATO at the end of March.

The airstrike hit a salt factory in the Qasr Ahmed neighborhood at 4:30 p.m. local time. The rebels had been using it as a forward position since at least yesterday, they said, and had notified NATO of their presence there. In early April, NATO admitted its warplanes twice hit rebel positions, killing more than a dozen men, and expressed regret after the second.

NATO could not be immediately reached for comment on this latest incident.

At a remote border crossing in the country’s mountainous southwest, rebels worked feverishly to build defenses as Colonel Qaddafi’s forces bore down on them, Reuters reported. The rebels had seized the crossing last week, allowing them to resupply rebel-held towns and cities that have been running short of food, fuel, water and medical supplies in a siege imposed by the government forces in early April.

Do not know if having NATO on your side is more dangerous then being its enemy.

you know why the hell are the GOP not shouting about how we are helping Bin ladens men and sending them money.

THIS IS NUTS.

we know the corrupt biased media will nto do their job but look at Trump.

He forced the issue and had the media cover it and this is what the GOP needs to start doing instead of sitting on their cowardly arses all the time.

Looking at a Libyan (or anyone else, for that matter,) it’s easy to tell if he’s a rebel:

See the way he walks down the street
Watch the way he shuffles his feet
And my he holds his head up high
When he goes walking by

(That should make it Crystal Clear)

Thing is, this has been going on for how long now, and the NATO/rebel forces are making no headway. The whole mess promises to end badly, no thanks to the "smart power" of the incompetent and amateurish hawk-hens who are running pussyboy obama.

Maybe NATO got confused and thought it was bombing an Al Qaeda position.

How could they get confused when the rebels had warned NATO they were using this building for forward spotting? Obviously some kind of slow relay of messages problem.

NATO and 0baMao created a stalemate condition between the two sides insuring the maximum death and destruction of both combatants and non-combatants.

My comment was sarcasm referencing the fact that some of the rebels elsewhere have been identified as Al Qaeda or Muslim Brotherhood and we find ourselves sometimes serving as their airforce.

Without competent US leadership (and let’s face it, NATO IS the US), they are as dangerous to themselves as they are to the enemy.

I saw this link when I read the rest of this long article. I also saw that rebels in the west control the mountain towns of Zintan and Nalut, and are fighting to keep the border there with Tunisia open for resupply purposes. The link is an interview with Qadaffi’s daughter, a lawyer. She volunteered to serve on Saddam Husseins trial team. The link does not say so, but I read elsewhere that Q assigned her to keep an eye on one of the sons who had a tendency to get wild on Europe trips.
