Possible tax on sodas in Texas
newschannel10 ^ | 4/19/2011 | Blair Bernier

Texas - A Texas lawmaker says a tax on soda is one way the state can get a handle on the massive budget shortfall.

The bill would put a one-cent tax per ounce of regular or diet soda sold in retail stores.

Supporters say the luxury tax would give the budget a much needed boost.

Lawmakers say the bill would also be beneficial because it could cause Texans to drink less soda.

This is a twofer. They want to tax and they want to push nanny state ‘healthy eating.’

Look at the Cig tax. Same thing, different product.

But newschannel10 doesn’t think it’s necessary that we know which Texas lawmaker is for this crap?

No. If they named named it might mean you'd call the lawmaker's office. It's what passes for journalism now.

The press will often waste 500-1000 words telling you a bill has been introduced but not provide the bill number. I found this frequently the case when looking for eligibility bills. It was noticing this pattern of non-information which spurred me to find the bills.

Freep a poll ping.

We could just cut off Government paid for services to noncitizens and have an instant surplus instead.

The bill was introduced by State Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. (D-Brownsville). The proposed legislation is SB 1004.

Seen all this before...First it starts with, “Oh it’s only a penny”...Then a nickle...Then 7 percent, then the Communist see everything as taxable...They’ll pull laws out of hats and force them down your throat and tell you, “It’s the law” pay up as 14 illegal aliens push you out of the way with pockets full of food stamp and welfare cash...

“We don’t drink sodas in Texas.
We drink Cokes.
And Dr. Peppers.”

That is so true! lol

Ordering your drink in Texas...
Waitress: what would you like to drink?
Customer: Coke
Waitress: what kind?
Customer: Dr. Pepper :)

This guy has lost his mind! He wants to raise taxes by having fewer people drink sodas?
People will stop drinking them and there won't be any new tax revenue whatsoever.
That's some real logical thinking there.

We'll soon have to have a never ending "War on Sodas" for the scofflaws.

That's when they raise the taxes again on soda, and then everything else, because your not paying enough in taxes.

Same old story.

It took me all of six minutes to read most of this thread, find this guys name and then post it.
For people living in the information age all too many are still incapable of using that technology...for whatever reason.
