Trump addresses tea party crowd in Boca Raton (hundreds gathered)

Sounding increasingly like a candidate, Donald Trump repeatedly told a raucous tea party crowd today he has the qualities needed in the White House and the conservative ideals necessary to seal the Republican nomination should he decide to run.

Trump struck familiar themes and talked about his own business acumen in his speech to hundreds gathered at a park here, where his name festooned signs, buttons and T-shirts of supporters. The real estate mogul even talked about the type of people he'd have serve as diplomats and said he was looking forward to releasing his financial disclosures.

"Most very successful people, the kind of people that we need running our country, don't want to be scrutinized and abused," he said. "This is the kind of person that this country must have right now."

He derided President Barack Obama, calling him the worst to occupy the White House in history. He again questioned whether the president was born in the U.S., even though the fact has been affirmed by officials in Hawaii, where Obama was born. And he maligned China, saying the U.S. should take control of Iraqi oil and described American infrastructure as third world.

Trump ticked through a number of issues seen as bedrocks for conservative candidates, saying he is anti-abortion, against gun control and wants to repeal Obama's health care law. Throughout the speech, he portrayed the U.S. as a nation in decline and himself as its potential savior.

Leave Jean S out of this. I answered your question twice. Now put down the beer, get sober and grow up, trumpster.

Was discussing these fine socio-economic nuances with the Sainted Spouse, and was reminded of the late, great Ogden Nash, and with apologies to Himself as I am going from memory ...

Here’s to Westchester County
Society’s most uppercrust shelf
Where Scarsdale speaks only to Bronxville
And Bronxville speaks but to itself.

Trump as a contender in the primaries: great.

Trump as the actual nominee: not great.

The average home today in Jamaica Estates sells for about $700,000. So I guess one could call it an upper middle class neighborhood both then and now. But make no mistake about it, Donald Trump's dad Fred was a self made real estate developer, who at his death was worth about $300 or $400 million.

If you feel the need to use language like that to defend your position it is definitely bedtime for you. Let’s take it up in the morning.

A lot of men made fortunes post-WWII. God bless ‘em. Queens was ripe for the picking in that era. Good for ole Fred.

But you just cannot equate that to the long line of blue bloods of the Bush/Pierce families. The way Trump talks, could ANYONE mistake him for a blue blood?

I will admit that Trump is not the perfect conservative we all want....but at least he’s pro-US, and right now, that looks pretty good.

I described Fred as "self made".

I knew that Fred was self-made. This line of discussion, tho, began with the proposition that The Donald was, of all things, born/raised in NY,NY vs. GWB being of the fine soil of TX. My intent was to return to the absurd contrast as to the socio-economic roots of the two men (both of whom I like and appreciate for what and who they are).

Suffice to say that one of them probably knew how to use a fish fork properly before he was out of the cradle; the other not until he was well out of Wharton. $$ and geography have little to do with that.

I have no idea who started using a fish fork properly, first.

My entry into the line of discussion was simply to correct the idea that Donald Trump was from a "middle-working class neighborhood" called "Jamaica".

BTW, as an odd side note, Barbara Pierce Bush of Rye, was born in....Flushing Queens.

If that is what you stand for then why do you constantly advocate and vote for Republicans? If the Republican party is defined by RINOs why do you support them? Do you think the founders of our Republic who would most likely agree with your definition of conservatism would vote for Republicans? I don’t think they would. Why do you?

That all sounds great and I agree 100%. I do not know one politician who supports a constitutional limited gov’t though except Ron Paul and he gets soundly thrashed on this site.

I think Flushing was also Nancy Reagan’s home town as a child. Small world, ain’t it ? A couple of my nephews and a niece were born in Flushing. Obviously a great place to be born.

I’m guessing Flushing was pretty close to rural (or as close to rural as anything in the 5 boroughs has been for the past century) when BPB an NDR lived there.

The Donald grew up in Jamaica Estates which is the ritzy side of Jamaica, Queens. Mario Cuomo had a house there too

Other parts of Jamaica can be slummy. Some are middle class

He won’t play nice like McCain did.

I won't vote for him in a primary if Palin, Bachman or West runs but I will damn well vote for him against Obama without hesitation.

One thing I would like to know though. If Trump becomes president and a bill is passed to repeal ObamaCare makes it to his desk, will he sign it?
