But that hasn't stopped Donald Trump, who has captured national attention with his outspoken skepticism of Obama's citizenship, from surging in early presidential polls. He leads all potential GOP presidential candidates by nine points in a Public Policy Polling survey released Friday. He trailed only Mitt Romney in a NBC/Wall Street Journal poll released last week.
The real estate mogul and star of NBC's "The Apprentice" says he's encouraged by the polls, but won't make an announcement about his plans for a presidential bid until June. Yet he'll be in Florida this weekend to speak at a Tea Party Tax Day rally in his first political trip since he began making waves with talks of a possible presidential bid.
Despite Trump's early strong showing, many still aren't convinced of his electability and analysts say he will have to go beyond the so-called "birther" cause and define himself for Republican primary voters on social, fiscal and foreign policy issues.
Cary Covington, a political science professor at the University of Iowa, attributes Trump's high poll numbers more to a weak Republican field than to Trump's strengths as a potential candidate.

Absolutely. We have the freedom in this country to run on any party ticket or as an independent. That does not mean I like Murkie. I thought her repub opponent was pretty good. But people in Alaska liked Murkie better, apparently.
Bill Clinton had a first in 40 years of wandering in the proverbial wilderness a REPUBLICAN House of Representatives. They fenced OFF his socialist tendencies. BUT the Clintons put people in place to lay the ground work for this present administration to do thing 'better'. They got out foxed and neither one of them are willing to or are able to admit the error of their ways.... That is what liberalism is all about.
The Trump “phenomenon” is still in its infancy, and if does not take a genius to see where this is going, IMO.
So that means that you won't be sharing with us what is blatantly obvious to you? Not so interesting, sadly.
What Trump did is look at the Republican field and see a field that is not looking real strong right now against a leftist president whose approval ratings are tanking. So he decided to push a few button and demagogue a few issues (Obama’s birth, get tough with China), and now some so-called conservatives are fawning all over him. Trump is an opportunist of the highest order, and I would expect this type of egotistical behavior from him. What is disappointing is to see conservatives fall for his trash talk.
I will tell you why. When your have lost your job, and your house is being foreclosed, and your kids can’t find summer jobs, and gas prices have doubled in 2 years, and food prices escalating every month, people are looking for a “leader”, not ideological purity. Just my honest opinion. No one knows if Trump can solve all problems, but people are hungry for a leader. Trump could never run unless real unemployment is 20% and house values have dropped 30% and gas+food prices are scaring the heck out of people.
So, what's your point?
Fraud is NOT limited to eligibility. As far as I am concerned the Clintons are every bit as big a 'fraud' as the one that got himself implanted to destroy this nation. Their hand are every bit as dirty as anybody else that is involved in politics. Now look at the LORD McCain harlotry... he is NO different than the rest. It does not appear to matter political party they all seem to come from the same 'root' base. We willing have allowed ourselves to be ripped OFFFF and the 'donald' is part of their mix.

I agree with that, actually. I'm not buying what Trump is selling, but I absolutely understand why some people are. I think your summation captures that reason perfectly.

That's why I'm starting to like TRUMP now.
If Palin get's in, I'm going to have a tough choice.
But, I'm a Palin-leaner at the moment.
He's vain, an egomaniac, and an opportunist. Without question.
He's also the only contender willing to take on the empty-suit that is Obama, and his enablers and sycophants in the MSM, with in-your-face style and barely concealed contempt.
And what's not to like about that?
My "point" is three-fold. First, it's clear from the headlines I posted that those same media long knives are out for Trump, too. I think it's also instructive to examine why Trump has (perhaps momentarily) broken through and Palin hasn't. Trump's media skills are exponentially greater than Palin's.
Where Trump isn't only not afraid to engage a hostile interviewer, he seems to relish it. Palin, not so much. In fact, she won't go on a show that isn't hosted by FNC. That says something.
My last point is that there are a half-dozen Republican candidates that would like just a fraction of the media buzz that has been bestowed on either Trump or Palin - Pawlenty would push his own mother down a flight of stairs if he thought it could get him a page 1 headline, just for a day. It wouldn't.
The media loves a good circus. Trump is just another side-show act in that big, media circus.
Why he supported Canadian-style socialized health care back in 2000.
