Trump's Strength in Early Presidential Polls Defies Conventional Wisdom
Foxnews ^ | Stephen Clark

A top adviser for President Obama dismisses him as a "sideshow." Former Bush adviser Karl Rove calls him a "joke candidate."

But that hasn't stopped Donald Trump, who has captured national attention with his outspoken skepticism of Obama's citizenship, from surging in early presidential polls. He leads all potential GOP presidential candidates by nine points in a Public Policy Polling survey released Friday. He trailed only Mitt Romney in a NBC/Wall Street Journal poll released last week.

The real estate mogul and star of NBC's "The Apprentice" says he's encouraged by the polls, but won't make an announcement about his plans for a presidential bid until June. Yet he'll be in Florida this weekend to speak at a Tea Party Tax Day rally in his first political trip since he began making waves with talks of a possible presidential bid.

Despite Trump's early strong showing, many still aren't convinced of his electability and analysts say he will have to go beyond the so-called "birther" cause and define himself for Republican primary voters on social, fiscal and foreign policy issues.

Cary Covington, a political science professor at the University of Iowa, attributes Trump's high poll numbers more to a weak Republican field than to Trump's strengths as a potential candidate.

Trump is in this for Trump.

It's a given that Mrs. Palin has had her low points in interviews, but the situations, once again, are simply not comparable. I'm of the opinion that the MSM has their own reasons for this, but the time span of focus on Trump has still been entirely too short to know for certain, but as I said before, I have my suspicions that their motives in this regard are to choose the Republican candidate for 2012.

Trump is not being treated in the same manner at this point in time, and only time will tell if the comparisons are truly apt.

Why haven't the big bad interviewers highlighted his "negatives" with the same fervor they went after Mrs. Palin? I will concede that there hasn't been much time for that so far, but I'm seeing no indications at this point that they are preparing for such tactics, and that should give pause to all of the Trump “fans”.

In any case, this country needs a POTUS like Mrs. Palin, but already has a POTUS that is ideologically more like Trump.

We don't agree at all over Trump. I don't see him as any "juggernaut" in any sense outside of his own mind and the minds of those who hate this administration so much they would vote in Soros or Ahmadinnerjacket from Iran just to rid us of Obama.

As for Mrs. Palin, Your casual dismissal of her is contradictory to her full track record over the last 2+ years, and I'm of the opinion she has dramatically improved her "talents" when it comes to MSM exposure. When and If the times comes for her to travel back into enemy territory, I feel she will be able to hold her own without any problems.

Trump, on the other hand, has taken this path for his own personal interests, and his flip flops on core conservative issues along with his beliefs on health care and the second amendment will not get him the support he needs from conservatives unless he has something else to offer, and that something else is what we have seen in the last month.

I agree. With the speech she gave in Madison, Wisconsin today, it looks as if Sarah Palin is taking Rush’s advice. Her speech sounded like the first salvo.

I like Palin also

Considering your posts about Mrs. Palin over the last two weeks, you are a liar.

I think you have pretty much summed up the way most people think - especially me. Trump does have a lot of negatives, but he is addressing the tough issues that others aren’t addressing. Maybe if other GOP candidates with less “negatives” would follow his example, we would have a good winning candidate in 2012.

BTW, I like your tag. :-)

Prove it. I know you can’t because I follow Reagan’s 11th. I like to post about positive qualities of the candidate of mypreference. Putting down other Republicans is not my style. I have matured out of that style. Because it is like eating your own. It only helps the Kenyan Socialist.

Just because I am currently for trump does not mean I do not like Palin, Bachmann, and Cain. Any one of them would be 1000 times better than Obamao. I am looking at polls and electability and my preference could change.

And that "strong man from somewhere", may just be SOROS.

Our common enemy today is a communist/muslim alliance that is hell-bent on the destruction of the USA specifically, and Western Civilization in general, and the worst of them are rooted among us, not "over there".

How true! Americans are just learning about Islam. All one needs to do is study history going back to Mohammad.

What guarantee do we have she won’t resign half way through the term? (been there done that)?

Supported O’Donnell & Angle with cash. No dog in NY-23. Joe Miller was a surprise. I did’nt think he would lose in Sarah’s own state.

Just explain to me how Angle or O’Donnell have benefited the conservative agenda by not being in power?

Please no recycling of also rans from 2008

Definitive proof? Perhaps not, but I still believe you are not being honest with your assertion.

And your responses to the questioning of Trump broke that “commandment”, did it not? You “trashed” Mrs. Palin with the statements I posted, did you not?

Actually, I do not care how or if you respond, so have a nice day.

I disagree it was trashing. Stating a genuine concern about electability about any one, or stating their poll numbers is not trashing. If I wanted to trash Palin, I could have posted some some really nasty stuff like you see on DU.

"Because the public is STARVING for a tell it like it is leader. .... "

Seems to me that you get exactly that from the other businessman in the game, Herman Cain, although Herman gets much less publicity.

What is the message you mean to convey with the Trojan Horse picture? Trump or Obama or both? Reagan’s words are the watchwords as we move forward: “Trust but Verify.” What good is having stellar Republican or Conservative credentialed candidates if they are all woosies?

-"I like Palin also. Just not sure who is more electable in November, Palin or Trump."

That's my same dilemma right now.

Somehow I feel that TRUMP has that 'I mean business' type of approach. And we sure do need it against our enemies right now (foreign 'and' domestic).
