Nuclear Problem In Japan: Is Obama Partly Responsible?
The Market Ticker ^ | March 17, 2011 | Karl Denninger

Posted on 03/17/2011 5:25:57 PM PDT by an amused spectator

From the BBC:

2226: The Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper, quoting a senior official of the ruling Democratic Party of Japan, said the US made the offer immediately after the disaster damaged Fukushima No 1 nuclear plant. According to the unnamed senior official, US support was based on dismantling the troubled reactors run by Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) some 250 km (155 miles) northeast of Tokyo. However, the government and TEPCO thought the cooling system could be restored by themselves, the report said.

Am I reading this right?

Our government demanded that the Japanese dismantle - that is, permanently remove - over five gigawatts of power in order to help them with a critical safety problem that had the potential to destroy 100 square miles of land and kill or injure thousands of people?

That as compensation for helping them we demanded that they cripple their electrical generating capacity on a permanent basis?

You have to be kidding me.

This is an extremely serious charge.  If it's true it stands alone as grounds for impeachment and dismembering every single federal agency involved.

Perhaps this explains why the US Military and/or civilian authorities didn't stick a couple of big-ass generators on a transport plane and get them over there, restoring power to the reactors within hours of the incident and avoiding all of the serious radiation and physical damage at the plant.

This allegation is ridiculously incendiary and demands an immediate and complete Congressional investigation.  Not only do the citizens of the United States deserve to know the truth (or falsity) of this charge (and who initiated it if it is false), but so do the Japanese people.

If this is how this man treats our friends - attempting to use a crisis threatening the lives of civilians to score a political point and advance his "green" agenda.....

Sourced from Yomiuri Shimbun (this isn't some little small town rag):

Founded in 1874, the Yomiuri Shimbun is credited with having the largest newspaper circulation in the world having a combined morning and evening circulation of 14,323,781 through January 2002. The paper is printed twice a day and in several different local editions.

Also, the BBC feed.

Sounds exactly like something Barry would do since he thinks he's in charge of the whole world. IMHO, I'd be surprised if it isn't true. It definitely answers the question I've wondered about, why there was no way to use emergency generators to restore power and solve the problem early on.

If the Kenyan Clown did insist on such an outrageous condition before aiding our ally Japan, then words fail me.

I realize that the Kenyan usurper hates and despises the United States but at least it's a country that foolishly chose him and will have to endure his tenure; extending such egregious vileness to a good ally like Japan would be beyond the pale.

If true, it would benefit his true constituents, the chicoms. It would assist in the deindustrialization of Japan, long term, in favor of China.

Glad you posted this. I was just getting ready to.

This is OUTRAGEOUS! It's not the condition that Japan dismantle their nuke plant, but the fact that we placed a condition AT ALL!

As another poster on Karl's forum said: How is this any different than threatening to drop atom bombs on them if they don't dismantle the plant?

Well, he did promise his communist and enviro whacky masters a nuclear free world

We thought he was only targeting the elimination of (USA) nuclear weapons

This does sound like the snot nosed elitist attitude of a typical obamite bureaucrat

Gee I don’t know, blackmailing a foreign nation during a dire national disaster endangering the lives of countless individuals and the loss of infrastructure, before he would provide help.

Could that be a crime?

I've been asking this very question for days and nobody but me seems to care. I've been given all kinds of excuses, but no solid reasons. If Helos can carry apc's and trucks, I'm danged if I can understand why they can't carry and drop a few generators into the plant yard that could be connected within hours.

ANY electrical source, planes, ships, generators, ANYTHING that could trickle power into the pumps to keep the cooling system intact.

But I've been the only voice in the wilderness asking this question.

Perhaps he was trying to negotiate a contract for a new plant for GE?

Bookmark for later reread after getting over the shock of the audacity of this Administration IF this turns to be truth, and apparently is, and wouldn’t put it past them, and I’m outta here.

Has anybody noticed the word “unbelievable!” with an exclamation mark isn’t used much anymore with reference to this administration?

HOA...

You are not alone I mentioned yesterday if this was Ronaldus Maximus the C-5A's would have been filled with the gen-sets and on their way. Another poster mentioned the C-5's, yes it makes sense.

This maybe the answer, their was a quid-pro-qou, and he let the Japanese dangle, they didn't bite, and they didn't have the resources to correct it.

So now, he has another crisis for the EPA, DOE and NRC to investigate our plants and I am curious how he finagles Japan to get the cleanup work for a Chicago Company or GE and also stop or slow down Nuclear Power.

It is enough to make you revile him isn't it...
