Lieberman, McCain Call for More Forceful U.S. Response to Libya Violence
Fox ^ | 2011-02-27

Senators Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., and John McCain, R-Ariz., both expressed disappointment Sunday that President Obama has not responded more forcefully against the violence spreading in Libya and called for the arming of rebel forces in that country.

(snip)

Lieberman stopped short of calling for direct American military involvement, but McCain did not rule it out.

"I think there possibly could be," the Arizona Republican said of using military force, though he hastily added that Libyan pilots are sure to obey a no-fly zone.

This is the same country that bombed a civilian air liner causing the deaths of hundreds of Americans and ultimately the demise of Pan Am. It is widely believed that they still have a large chemical weapons stockpile. Get the Americans stuck there out and let nature take it’s course. We don’t need their oil. Drill here, drill now. We have no business interfering with Libya.

I second that! We need to stay out of the entire middle east mess, period. It’s not going to turn out well in any of those countries.

Let these two gaseous old Righteous Brothers haul themselves out of their upholstered easy chairs, grab some guns and go fight the mobs themselves.

We have no particular national security interest in the outcome in Libya. So, true to form, when there is nothing at stake for us, the liberals want to rush in and get entangled. They really do have a mental problem.

I don’t believe it’s going to turn out well no matter what we do so we may as well get out of the Middle east. Those people are hell bent to put themselves back to the 7th Century no matter what we do. As far as I’m concerned, don’t send any more of our kids over there to die for a bunch of rag heads that don’t even care about themselves, let alone our kids.

The middle east has been a cesspool of death and corruption for 2000 years. Arabs in particular view deceit of outsiders as honorable. I have no idea what makes anyone think us infidels are going to ride in and change a damned thing over there. I've worked in the middle east several times. I can tell you from my direct observations it's a lost cause. The problem is we've made some of them rich beyond their wildest imaginations and they maintain a 7th century mentality. When that 7th century mentality gains 21st century weaponry we are in heap big doo-doo. The only saving grace is they are still very tribal in nature and for the most part can't get along with each other. Much like the Chicoms, if all the Muzzies ever get going in the same direction we're screwed.

The thing is that although I understand the reasoning for going into Afghanistan and Iraq, my fear is that any change from that action is temporary and transitional back to business as usual, given the history.

Of course, oil is the key for us but only because we are not doing everything we need to do to reduce dependence on oil from this region. We, collectively, seem stupid (or at least 50% of us).

I agree with one exception. Bomb them back to the dark ages THEN pull out. We need to make sure they don’t get back up and keep messin’ with us.

We, collectively, seem stupid (or at least 50% of us).

The stupidity (or is it insanity?) comes from re-electing the same people election after election for decades and expecting different results.......

Amen and amen! While L and M suit up to prepare to do the fighting themselves, they should recruit that famous promoter of conflicts in which his butt is not on the line, Wolfowitz. He’s pushing for the US to step in, too.

Anything the US does to intervene will only make matters worse and risk the safety of our troops in Iraq. Let Europe deal with Libya; they’re the ones who import Libyan oil.

....let alone our kids.

These people are willing to strap bombs onto their own children! What in the world makes anyone believe we can change that mentality is well beyond my comprehension. They don't deserve to be a part of the civilized world until they prove they are worthy.

Two old men, removed from reality, popping old geezer medications, are plotting their relevance in the world by calling on young men and women to die for what? The ME should be left alone to sort out their own mess with their young men and women, not ours.

It just could be insanity.

The real problem does seem to be re-electing anybody - incumbents always seem to be focused on re-election versus solving issues and problems, e.g. addressing entitlements, etc.

Term limits? POTUS - one four year term, Senators - one four year term, House - one two year term. We would end up with citizen law makers versus career politicians.

I was opposed to sending troops into Egypt and I’m opposed to sending our troops into Libya. I also doubt that Israel will want to send in troops.
