"You're talking about being an ideologue? If you're looking for one, I'm not it," said Sen. Scott Brown.
Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) said he doesn't consider himself a member of the Tea Party movement and would welcome any primary challenger.
Brown, the Republican senator from deep-blue Massachusetts whose win in a special election last year in part catalyzed the Tea Party movement, said he considers himself just a Republican, though one with sympathies toward some Tea Party issues.
"Hey, nothing wrong with a primary. I welcome all challengers," Brown said Tuesday morning on MSNBC.
He said Monday evening that he didn't identify as a member of the Tea Party movement.
"No, I'm a Republican from Massachusetts. I'm not a Tea Party member," Brown said during an appearance on Fox News.
The Massachusetts senator is promoting his new book, which includes revelations of sexual and physical abuse as a child, on the road toward what's expected to be a tough reelection challenge in 2012.
In addition to being targeted by Democrats, Brown's faced frustration from some of the conservative activists who helped propel him to victory due to some of his more centrist votes in the Senate.
"I have a lot of respect for the Tea Party and what they stand for
I'm not a social crusader; I'm going to keep an open mind on each and every issue," Brown told MSNBC. "You're talking about being an ideologue? If you're looking for one, I'm not it."

Squish the squishy RINO.
Thanks, Scott. We’ll get back to you.
Hey Brown, you loser: You served our purposes, and we were willing to work with you. But you throw us under the bus, we’ll reciprocate. Our bus carries a couple million people, though.
Idiot.
Brown’s welcome to put in to any primary he wants. He’d be utterly destroyed by a Walker.
When Brown was elected, I expected him to stray off the conservative reservation (so to speak) on a number of issues. I clearly understood the politics of the state that elected him. He needed to occasionally vote liberally.
But he’s gone way past that. He seems to revel in voting with the Dems on more than just a few issues.
RINO= Commie lets face it folks
Let MA take care of him. We will take Conrad’s seat and Claire McCascalls Seat and replace some rino’s in the process as well.
People who claim not to be ideologues are admitting that they don’t believe in anything. Is that who we want as our leaders?
If he loses, he’ll pull a Murkowski after the primary.
What a POS. I truly feel sorry for the Freepers who donated to this clown. So he just used the Tea Party to get to the “people’s chair”.
rat b@st@rd
Don’t care what he is really. He’ll hopefully get defeated in the primary next year by a TRUE Tea Party candidate.
What a Bastard SOB is Brown.
First, he and Romney did not permit a GOP primary
last time (which is why Deval Patrick is Governor).
Second, Bastard Brown OWES conservatives and the
Tea Party, but instead BOWS before the DNC and Obama
and Romney and Soros.
Right after his election, there were quite a few freepers who were all “Brown for President”. I wonder where they are now...
Time to upgrade the seat again.
Thinks he is being cute.
Brown is as good as you can expect from the delusional fantasy land of MA. Back during the election I thought it was funny how this board was all about the greatness of Brown. Anyone familiar w/ MA knows its a liberal cesspool not to be reformed.
Phony Republican Imitating Conservatism...
.
“The Massachusetts senator is promoting his new book, which includes revelations of sexual and physical abuse as a child”
Is this a requirement for someone to be in the limelight these days? Everybody who gets on the tube or in print was “sexually abused”?
I’m starting to believe there’s a lot of mass self-hypnosis going on.
