Labor: Unionized Wisconsin teachers should be ashamed of their response to legislation that would end their privilege to bargain collectively. And if such lousy behavior continues, they should be relieved of their duties.
The Wisconsin government is in a financial hole, operating with a $137 million deficit for the current fiscal year ending June 30. Its future is filled with bigger deficits, projected to be as large as $3.6 billion.
One way to cut into the shortfall is to end the public employee unions' collective bargaining privilege that has landed them the generous salaries and benefits the taxpayers are struggling to pay.
Doing what voters elected him to do, new Republican Gov. Scott Walker introduced a bill last week that would strip nonfederal government workers in Wisconsin of their collective bargaining license and require them to contribute more to their benefits package.
Public school teachers, who would not be the only public employees affected, responded as if they took their cues from their students. They marched like spoiled entitlement queens on the Capitol in Madison and threw a tantrum, leaving behind trash and tarnished images that someone else has to clean up.
The teachers are so incensed that 40% of the 2,600 of them who are in the Madison collective bargaining unit cut class Wednesday to demonstrate.
This prompted school officials to cancel classes Wednesday and again Thursday, which is cheating students and taxpayers out of two days of learning.

Do we have a $$ number on losses so far?
Abolish ALL public sector Unions.
The local school boards need to close the schools and post the jobs on the internet. Plenty of applicants will to take the task of teaching mush-heads.
2 days less of leftwing indoctrination?? cool!
I wonder if this taken together with Ohio and Boehner at his DC home are the future of progressivism. After the 2010 elections they have given up on democracy.
To Obama, Wisconsin may as well be Egypt.
Being a wisconsin-born-and-raised packer fan, I listened carefully to his comments about the pout-fest in Madison, regarding the bump in copays.
He missed the point so badly, it reminded me of his gang’s response to the Egypt events.
by the way, the president showed poor sportsmanship, in my opinion, refusing to call and congratulate Packer Coach Mike McCathy after the game — as he had done for the Saints coach last year after his team won Super Bowl 44. gibbs was asked about it by a packer fan in the white house press corps on Monday. later that afternoon, obama did call Coach McCarthy (after McCarthy had returned to Green Bay)
Again, Obama missed the point of the call: congratulating the winning Coach of the Super Bowl on National TV during the post-game Locker Room session, as it has always been done. (don’t get me wrong, I was glad not to have to listen to him at that time!)
packer fans, you see, care about things like sportsmanship.
Arrogant government employee parasites.
?
The union parasites are falling fast. They cannot stand pay by merit. Wisconsin congress will vote on this and the Governor will sign it. The scum calling in sick should be given the same ultimatum Reagan gave ATC. You have 48 hours to make up your mind. If you are not at work by that time consider yourself TERMINATED!
Oh no!
They're learning something all right!!
One must have the necessary body parts that gives impetus to actions like that.
Well, I’m not familiar with the players in Wisconsin but after watching Greta’s last segment it would appear they are going to pass this. If the Senate doesn’t show up the House will move forward and vote. If the House scum doesn’t show up I can see mass furloughs of state workers as a result.
The demonstrations by unions in Ohio and the unions converging on the Speaker home according to twitter breaking news earlier today.
