Potential GOP presidential candidate Sarah Palin turned down a chance to speak at the prestigious Herzliya Conference this week, abandoning her plan to visit Israel early this year.
"She was invited; the president was invited, a conference spokesman said, according to the Washington website The Hill. All of the top people in the U.S. were invited. But it's not as if her attendance was imminent or expected." Palin's advisors have not commented on her no-show.
The former Alaska governor reportedly planned to visit Israel early this year to try to improve her image of being poorly informed on foreign affairs. Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee, two other front-runners, recently visited Israel.

It does not sound like she had agreed to go to this particular event. So her not going would not be a “no-show”, would it?
Why can’t her posse get their act together? She needs some new pros to help shape a new image for her, to gain bona fides where she is considered lacking.
“No-show” my behind. Wouldn’t one have to commit to be a no-show?
In what way did they fail here?
Where the hell did that come from? Is INN a liberal publication?
A chance to address an international event that attracts presidents and prime ministers as speakers? In a nation that is predisposed to be friendly towards you, given you history of support for them? What is the benefit to turning an opportunity like that down?
Perhaps a prior commitment among about a million other things.
I don’t see how her staff can avoid these dishonest news stories that come out every day about her.
This one is designed to hurt her credibility with the evangelical vote now that Huckabee isn’t running. They are trying everything they can in the most devious ways to destroy her, and she remains strong.
The problem is with weak minded people who fall for everything they read in the media.
There is a co-ordinated and nonstop campaign to make her look bad because they know she can win it all and it scares the crap out of them.
The first order of business is to check for actual quotes from Governor Palin or her spokespeople, otherwise I consider anything I read in the media about her as probably false, as this bogus story obviously is.
I don’t take this comment seriously. Matter of fact, one has to take much of what is read in Israeli media with a large grain of salt. There is much hyperbole. The Israeli left is far far worse than Israeli National News.
Oh- and no, Israeli National News is a right wing religious Jewish publication.
Agree that this is a head-scratcher. Palin is historically a strong supporter of Israel, even before she came on the national stage. Recall the photos of her gov’s office with the Israeli flag and the US-Israeli flags pendant that she frequently wears.
A visit to Israel would seem a natural launching point to shore up the “international” component of her portfolio - assuming, of course, there’s an imminent presidential run in her future. She would have an extraordinarily friendly audience, her message and history would be well received, and - given the events in the neighborhood there - it would be an extraordinarily well-timed event.
I’m a big SP supporter and, for a long time, thought she was positioning herself extraordinarily well for a prez run in 2012. I’m starting to get the feeling that she might have decided otherwise. Admittedly it’s hard to read her tea leaves and she’s certainly revels in being the non-traditional politician, but this one doesn’t make sense.
Doesn’t sound like she committed to the appearance, but IMO, it would’ve been a good idea. Any idea as to why she won’t make the trip?
Or maybe she's scared?
None yet. Who knows, though? Maybe she is waiting for the Egypt mess to calm down, so she isn't hammered for interfering.
I wouldn’t take it seriously either however, they are on facebook and no doubt; read by thousands. Odd thing is I went to comment on the facebook page and couldn’t find it after it appeared just minutes ago. (I follow them on FB)
Comments such as that should never be allowed to stand without dispute.
Agreed. Bet they will take it back. Maybe it was thrown in to the article gratuitously for some reason. It wasn’t because of some hatred of the Tea Party movement by INN that I have seen before.
I have to agree. This was a huge opportunity for her. I also remember some months back it was rumored that she was going to meet Margret Thatcher but never heard anymore about it.
imo, she needs to get into this area soon. Since every unauthorized idiot is going in some quasi official capacity, she needs to counter those people and start adding to her own, already stellar credentials.
Even now, I’d accept Gov. Palin’s lead vis-a-vis Israel vs. Islam rather than Obama’s.
I hope so. I haven’t followed INN as closely as I should but will since you have indicated they are ‘friendly’ (right wing :)
