The time to vomit is now.

Aaron Sorkin's Cable News Drama Is A Go At HBO With Pilot Order, Scott Rudin Producing

EXCLUSIVE: Aaron Sorkin's long-gestating drama set behind the scenes of a nightly cable news show is becoming a reality. HBO has closed a deal for a pilot order to the project, which reunites The Social Network writer with the movie's producer Scott Rudin. Both are executive producing the pilot, which will be filmed later this year. UPDATE: Word is the project's working title is More As the Story Develops.

In his research for the show, Sorkin spent time at Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews' MSNBC shows as well as at Fox News Channel and CNN programs, but the TV personalities he shadowed are not expected to be part of the HBO show. That includes Olbermann, who, despite Internet speculation, is not involved in the project.

Sorkin has been raking in accolades for his Social Network script and is considered a front-runner for the adapted screenplay Oscar. Meanwhile, Rudin, an Oscar winner for No Country For Old Men, is a double contender in the best picture category with The Social Network and True Grit, the latest film from the No Country duo of Ethan and Joel Coen. On Tuesday, The Social Network netted a total of 8 Academy Award nominations, including best picture, best adapted screenplay, best director (David Fincher) and best lead actor (Jesse Eisenberg).

Just when we all breathed a sigh of relief with the firing of Olbermann, his ghastly, pompous persona is getting set to return to the airwaves with an HBO drama, behind-the-scenes-look at a nightly cable news show, the Olbermann fiasco in all its repulsively nauseating pomposity.

Olbermann not expected to be part of the HBO show? As a work of fiction, why let facts, reality, get into the way?

It’s already been done: ‘Network’.

A TV network cynically exploits a deranged ex-TV anchor’s ravings and revelations about the media for their own profit.

Just another reason on a list of many for me not to have HBO.

HBO wants to understand how it is to rid themselves of a cool aid drinker. Is Bill Maher next?

HBO is in trouble. They haven't had anything since the Soparanos and Deadwood.

Starz is giving them a good beating starting with Spartacus. The producers behind "No Country for Old Men" have put $30 million into Starz.

Sorkin's been there, done that...

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip Opening Monologue

Actually a pretty good show, if you can get past Sorkin's crazed obsession with the "religious right".

The HBO project could be special if Sorkin had the stones to bring in a writer or two to challenge him. I doubt he has the stones to do it.

And for all its critical praise, “Boardwalk Empire” is a dud.

They are probably are hoping the 100 or so people who watched Keith will miss him and come on over and double Bill Maher audience

I’m not sure wherre they’re getting that title... it’s a show about cable news, not about Olbermann’s firing. There were discussions about the project long before Keefie was fired.

I like Sorkin's products. It will be interesting to see how he attacks this subject.

Well, I wondered who made up the hundred or so people who watched MSNBC. Now we know. They are all getting together to make a movie!

On your FR homepage you give a tip as to how to achieve the best results when using FR's search tool.

I wonder if you have any tips for how to search if an article has already been posted when a poster makes up his (her) own dumb ass title, never mind that it in no way reflects the content of the linked article.

Let's start with the disingenuous headline you made up for this post.
