ORLANDO, Fla. -- Most of us would do anything to keep cockroaches out of our homes. However, an Orlando man was arrested Wednesday night for smuggling them into the state and into his house.
Apparently, bugs are a big business, and officers said he had them illegally shipped into Orlando from California.
The roaches are about two-inches-long and they're often used as food for reptiles. But they're illegal in Florida and one Orlando man found out how serious the state is about enforcing the law.
Cockroaches are crawling insects some people love to hate and they are everywhere in Florida. But the type of roach that Derek Rader allegedly smuggled in, isn't supposed to be here.

Is that a cockroach in your pants or.................
Nothing a good dose of cypermethrin and orange oil won’t fix! I’ve not seen a roach in my home in the 3 years I’ve lived in it. Then again, I’m sure the cats do their exterminating jobs after hours, but I’ll pretend that I’m safe.
And yes, our state takes roaches very seriously. We’ve got enough pests here. Don’t need another!
NAPL!
Silly man doesn’t realize that the USDA is the only one that can import and release non-indigenous pests into the United States.
Undocumented cockroaches?
Did they all have their Democrat voter registration cards completed?
All these many years I thought it was NYC. Cockroaches & now bedbugs.
In Florida, there are palmetto bugs. A lovely sight.
Smuggling them INTO Florida?? Hell, all you have to do is go into your front yard. You’ll pick up 2 dozen in about 30 seconds??? Does this guy also smuggle ice to Greenland?
Next, he’ll smuggle bottles of Jack Daniels into Tennessee
I thought they just called them that so tourists wouldn't realize they're actually 4-inch cockroaches.
Two inches long? Those’ll make a nice little snack for the local palmetto bugs.

I’ll never forget a visit to Florida I made as a child where I first came into contact with Florida’s cockroach population.
My family walked into a motel room, turned on the lights and we were immediately attacked by squadrons of the largest, most horrific flying roaches I’ve ever seen.
My mom was hysterical and started screaming at the top of her lungs while I sat petrified on the floor covering my head and crying insanely (I was four). Luckily my father calmed us down and got us out of there. The motel clerk told us what they were but to this day I am still terrified of roaches.
As New Yorkers the largest insect we had ever seen up to that time was the ubiquitous New York Waterbug but the monsters we encountered in Florida had to be twice the size of these.
Somebody's smuggling more Progressives, Liberals, Leftists, Marxists, Socialists, Communists, etc. into the country?
The Democratic Party seems to have gotten away with it.
If only they could have arrested whomever smuggled bedbugs into NY...
