So if this president delivers a good speech that honors the slain and the heroes that ran into harm's way to save their fellow Americans, I (and Glenn Beck, apparently) feel like it's appropriate to give credit where credit is due

Heck No! I haven't heard Obama's speech but if it was good - so what? He was just meeting minimal duties of being President.

Precisely!
When it comes down to it, people like Beck and VictoryGal are impressed for the simple reason that Ubama read a speech that was not offensive to anybody, thereby exceeding expectations. Whoop-de-do.

Right, where I come from you don’t get recognition for doing the minimum acceptable job.

This “memorial” speech wasn’t even minimum acceptable... it was a campaign speech complete with crass advertisement in the form of T-shirts.

No attaboy is warranted. Only a slight, ever so slight, head nod for having done part of the minimum acceptable job.
