What a tragedy. Do people really need to carry a gun to go eat?
My reply: "The Luby's massacre was a mass murder that took place on October 16, 1991, in Killeen, Texas, United States when George Jo Hennard drove his pickup truck into a Luby's Cafeteria and shot 23 people to death while wounding another 20, subsequently committing suicide by shooting himself. It was the deadliest shooting rampage in American history until the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre........He reloaded several times and still had ammunition remaining when he committed suicide by shooting himself in the head after being cornered and wounded by police"

The Luby's Massacre was the catalyst which caused the original Texas Concealed Handgun Laws to be enacted.

Accidents happen. That being said, the man was a fool if a derringer was his primary concealed weapon.

FRiend, I have a Bond Arms SnakeSlayer that holds 2 .410 shells. I can assure you it is totally lethal from normal pistol defense ranges.
While rare, it IS occasionally my primary.

There is a plethora of effective firearms produced which are suitable for concealed carry/defense but in my opinion a 2 shot derringer is not one of them. As a deterrent, maybe. As an effective, versatile defensive tool, it is too limited. No professional would consider it. I guess we agree to disagree as the saying goes.

Ben Taub?
Why Ben Taub? There are tons of medical facilities in Humble, just south of Kingwood? Ben Taub is a very long ways to go for medical services? Wait! Isn't Ben Taub the “charity” hospital for that area? (Now that they've been annexed?

Let me guess -- a novelty weapon carried shoved into a coat pocket with no holster. What could go wrong?
Most of these things should not be used for concealed carry. If the hammer is down, the firing pin is resting on the primer. If it is cocked, the trigger is exposed.
Criminal stupidity.

This will most likely be ALL OVER the MSM by sundown tonight.
Unless the gun owner was a donor to the DNC.

Yep. I've owned several over the years myself. Derringers had their place in the 19th century, but will likely get you killed in a 21st century gun fight. Exposed triggers, half cock safeties, single action mechanism, and 2-round capacity are simply unacceptable for self defense these days. There's far better 21st century hardware out there for the same price.

Only with buckshot or slugs, and even then, it’s a marginal weapon for self defense, imo. Certainly better than yelling, though!

Wow.... a rare accident. 34,000 people died in traffic accidents in 2009. I guess we should outlaw those too...

Ben Taub is run by Harris County. Its where all the indigents and junkies end up in shootings and stabbings, and so has the most experienced trauma unit in the Medical Center.
