A Republican group that includes former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush on Thursday will kick off its efforts to improve the party's outreach to Hispanic voters, many of whom have been critical of some GOP candidates' harsh rhetoric on illegal immigration.
The new Hispanic Action Network is part of a growing number of Republican organizations reaching out to Hispanics in advance of next year's presidential election and it has powerful support.
The group is backed by former Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman, whose American Action Network funneled more than $30 million in campaign funds to Republicans in about 30 congressional races last year.
Republicans don't need to win a majority of Hispanic votes. But with the Latino population growing in swing states such as Nevada, Colorado and Florida, Republicans need to chip away at Hispanics' overall 2-1 preference for Democrats.
Democrats say their party's support comes from their stances on issues such as health care, education and the economy, as well as its response to Republican attacks on illegal immigrants.
But Bush and other Republicans have long maintained their party is a natural fit for Hispanics, particularly recent immigrants, because of the party's social conservatism, anti-abortion stance and positions for private school vouchers and other school choice proposals as well as lower taxes.

Wonderful. The Bush dynasty starts to slink back into the national spotlight. When it comes to this issue, I’m with the gay activists—no more Bush.
Yes, of course.

Reach out!
“many of whom have been critical of some GOP candidates’ harsh rhetoric on illegal immigration”
Lies, and damn lies. Define “harsh rhetoric” - they are using it as an emotional term, not a real one.
As I understand it, there are a reasonable number of hispanics who totally agree, and don’t want the hell they escaped from following them here.
Maybe AP could reference those “many of whom”, huh? Of course not, because that doesn’t fit their propaganda schedule.
....because Mel Martinez was so successful
But hey, Norm Colman is involved. You know this is a great idea when you have the backing of winners like Norm.
Jeb is helping out Hispanics now that he has done what he is capable of doing to help supposedly brain dead young women who have people that want to see them die by starvation.
/s off
No more Bushes.
No thanks.
Jeb is so brilliant. Just like his dad, he doesn’t reach to the 65% of us, but he does reach out to the 15% of them.
Now I don’t generally think in us/them terms, but when you get right down to it, he and his did does/did.
I don’t want to be singled out, for reaching out. I just want a guy whose policies are solid for each and every American, and who expects each and every person in our nation to live by our nation’s laws.
If you do stick to solid ground, you don’t have to worry about the shifting ground of the electorate. You support good solid policies for the United States, and guess what, people of all kinds support you.
That’s how Reagan won his coalition. Good policies that all U. S. Citizens could respect.
Now the truth.
Jed Bush will kick off efforts to kiss the pro-illegal alien Hispanics butts, so the Republican party might gain some votes.
And people still support this bozo?
Agreed.
Oh, please. The overwhelming majority of Hispanics associate Republicans (and whites in general) with the oligarchs who oppressed them in their home countries. They vote Democrat because the Democrats will give them other people's money and let them cut in line for school, housing, jobs, etc., based upon their surnames.
Get out o’ the Bushes!!! We don’t need anymore Bushes, especially to bridge the gap with Latinos. We need more people like Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), Gov. Susana Martinez (R-NM), Gov. Brian Sandoval (R-NV) and others.
The same Jeb Bush who advocated allowing illegals to be issued drivers’ licenses because “you can’t stop them from driving.”... THAT Jeb Bush??
Politics are personal with the ruling class:
“When Bush was 17, he went to León, Guanajuato, in Mexico, as part of his school’s student exchange program. He spent his time there teaching English, and it was there that he met his future wife, Columba Garnica Gallo.”
It's Republicans like this which cause me and many others to bail out of that political party...They might eventually leave American dead on the floor, but I won't be party to it.
The Bushes understood one thing. You will lose states like Texas and Florida in 10-15 years if you lose the Hispanic vote.
One mistake that is commonly made by some is to equate Hispanics with illegal immigrants, when many Hispanics have been born here or immigrated legally.
Illegal immigration is not a race issue and the Bushes understand we should not take the Left’s bait into making it a race issue.
Marco Rubio’s also Hispanic.
