ObamaCare: The Democrats' overhaul was supposed to increase access to health care. Yet construction on 45 hospitals has been shut down due to the legislation. This is a step back, not ahead.

As part of their effort to eventually end all private health care, the Democrats placed a provision in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that in essence shuts down construction of new physician-owned hospitals and blocks existing ones from expanding.

At issue is Section 6001. It gave physician-owned hospitals a Dec. 31, 2010, deadline to acquire Medicare certification to cover new and expanded facilities. Without certification, which can't be obtained until a facility is open, the hospitals are unable to bill the federal government for treating Medicare patients. When that deadline could not be met, construction at 45 hospitals was shut down.

So were the jobs of the men who were working on the facilities, not to mention the additional health care those hospitals would have provided.

Make no mistake. Physician-owned hospitals were targeted by the Democrats. Multiple sources say Democrats Sen. Max Baucus of Montana and Rep. Pete Stark of California are behind the wording of Section 6001. Baucus has a history of belligerence toward physician-owned hospitals, and Stark has been trying to punish doctors who have financial interests in hospitals since the 1980s.

Of the more than 5,700 U.S. hospitals, only 275 are physician-owned. Critics say these facilities are able to choose the healthiest and most well-off patients and do so to boost doctors' profits. They believe these hospitals hurt community-based ones financially because they're left to deal with the poorest and sickest patients.

Don’t you just love it? First we have to pay for the poor to go to the doctor, then we have to use the same hospitals to make sure the hospital gets the money from us to pay for the poor who are sent there by the doctors we paid!

Its all about driving privately owned hospitals out of business and making sure new hospitals are built only with government consent - that’s socialization of the health care sector of our economy.

This is what Obama, Pelosi and Reid are defending, make no mistake about it.

Yeah and since shutting down exploration in the gulf, gas has gone to over $3.00/gal!

Oops, wrong thread, same directive however.

Obamacare is the ultimate answer to healthcare: no one will receive medical care unless you volunteer to drink Jim Jones’Kool Aid. No doctors will continue practice unless you provide them with bribes of money or merchandise, just like in eastern European countries now.

The communist pigs want to force us all into government funded hell holes. I can imagine what these government hospitals will look like when money is tight and demand skyrockets. They will admit illegals first, minorities second and white people will be last. Medical treatment will take a backseat to the racial politics of liberals.

I must not be doing my job correctly.

I am still trying to explain to people why NObama HELLTH Care is so bad for all of us.

Here’s 45 hospitals which may get finished, but no Medicare billings/payments will come forth out of them.

IF they are not finished—how much money is hanging in the wind to the lenders???

Suggestion: look at the medical hiring in your own areas. State-run hospitals & med schools, health care ‘information systems,’ pediatricians, etc., etc.

The move to insurance HMOs pulled money from private practices 20 years ago, giving technicians & clerks decision-making capabilities. Now, the government wants that $$, and to make the docs into simple technicians.

But the med students will still have to put up tens of thousands in debt and years of their lives........

Right?

Didn’t they promise to forgive all medical school loans in return for 10 years of working for the government?

I remember seeing some TV shows with med students who thought this was a wonderful idea.

The very WORST hospitals in the country are the inner-city, GOVERNMENT run ones. There’s a reason that hospital in LA is called “Killer King”. If I want the best care I could afford, I’d much prefer the doctor owned. Why? Because they attract the best talent.
