Zsa Zsa Gabor was hospitalized Sunday to undergo surgery to have part of her right leg amputated because gangrene was setting in, a representative said.

Doctors examined a lesion on Gabor's leg that had gone from just over an inch to about a foot and was growing gangrenous, publicist John Blanchette said.

"They're going to have to amputate part of her leg," Blanchette said. "They said if they didn't, she could lose her life." He said the amputation would likely be below the knee,

The 93-year-old former actress broke her hip and had replacement surgery in July, and has been hospitalized several times since for swelling in her legs and blood clots throughout her body. She was in critical condition and asked for a priest to read her last rites during a hospital visit in August, but recovered and returned home.

Gabor has used a wheelchair since she was partially paralyzed in a 2002 car accident, and had a stroke in 2005.

One feels really sad this had to happen to such an old lady. But it has to be done to save her life.

The shock of the amputation may kill her.

She is 93.

Maybe it’s time for one of her Doctors to read her Obama’s scribe about how it might be best if she just decided to hang it up.

Agreed, I don’t think she’s going to pull out of this.

Right. Don’t you think it’s time for some end-of-life counselling here? I mean after all, these are precious resources she’s using.

My mother-in-law died after surgery to pin her broken hip and she was only 87!

Always touch and go if you are 80+

I agree, poor lady. Although I was more a fan of Ava I always enjoyed reading and hearing about Zsa Zsa`s antics

She deserved better than that jerk she has for a husband

Have an aunt that has PAD,this sounds like like what my aunt is going through

Praying for this poor lady and my aunt

Hang in there dahling. Prayers up.

Zsa Zsa was actually very good in the 1952 version of Moulin Rouge directed by John Huston. Thats when she was still trying to be an actress and not a comedy act.

Yep, same thing happened to my 92-year old grandfather. He fell and broke his hip, became bedridden, developed circulation problems in his left leg, and gangrene set in. The doc had to amputate, and five days later, he was dead.

It was a pretty awful experience for him and our family, and I don't wish it on anybody.

You’re right. And she was also an absolute KNOCK OUT!!! Too many only remember her as she has looked over the past decade or so.

My father-in-law suffered same except with a different outcome. I searched for a doc to do a bypass. He lived another 5 years keeping both his legs until his heart gave out on him. Unfortunately amputations seem to be the treatment of choice for necrosis. I suspect it will become the only treatment with Obamacare.
