I was stationed in Korea in the mid sixties. Human excrement was used to fertilize the rice paddies. NOT uncommon to see the girl one was kissy face with the night before knee deep in the stuff working in the rice paddy.
Was on speed control duty one day. Had a Sgt. Major rip by at breakneck speed of 35 mph. The speed limit for USA in S Korea was 25 mph then. My partner and myself chased down the culprit, and pulled him to the side of the road to write him a ticket............ We let him go quickly when we realized we were parked next to a “honey pit”, which is basically just a hole in the ground they store the excrement for the fields.

The county will apply sewage sludge to pasture land for hauling cost only. It will really green up a field, but it is horrid for the first week or two.
