Dec 17 (Reuters) - The House of Representatives voted on Friday to extend government funding through Dec. 21 to avoid a shutdown after lawmakers failed to agree on a long-term solution.
The Senate also is expected to pass the measure, which would pay for government operations beyond Saturday night, when current funding expires.
Lawmakers have failed to pass a budget for the current fiscal year, which started Oct. 1, and thus have extended last year's budget to fund the operation of everything from nuclear submarines to national parks.
Senate Democrats had hoped to pass a detailed, $1.1 trillion spending bill to cover the rest of the fiscal year, but they abandoned that effort on Thursday night in the face of unified Republican opposition.
Republicans want to extend current funding beyond January, when they will take control of the House and hold a larger number of seats in the Senate.

Hopefully these crazy Dems...and they are crazy...will soon be out of business.
(Wow! Did I write that?)
(....but its true....)

“Hopefully these crazy Dems...and they are crazy...will soon be out of business.”
I’m already hearing how the new Republican leadership wants to be fair to them and give Dems greater involvement than Pubbies had. Disgusting.
I can’t believe the “media” got so excited this week about Dubai’s 11 million dollar Christmas tree when the Commie’RATS have one that costs 1.1 TRILLION! Look at all those pretty ornaments! 6700 of them!!!
I haven’t.
Hot Air says the shenanigans might not be over...
“...Duane Patterson and I discussed this yesterday during my show, after Duane heard from a source on the Hill that a minibus might wind up being offered instead. The minibus would be a blend of continuing resolution and omnibus, funding specific agencies or efforts for the entire year while leaving the rest for the Republicans to budget after January. Instead of having a mid-February expiration on the CR portion, the new deadline would become mid-March, allowing more time for the GOP to apply a systematic approach for budgeting rather than another omnibus...
... If the minibus funds DoD and Homeland Security for the fiscal year without porking it up, that shouldnt be a big problem for the GOP. If the Democrats and the White House insist on treating it as a Christmas tree with pork ornaments or especially if they attempt to push ObamaCare funding through full-year HHS funding they should insist on just a pure CR, even if it means a tighter deadline on the back end.
Keep a close eye on the CR that gets produced over the weekend. The shenanigans may not yet be over.”

Anybody know why they extended it just through Tues? Why nor Feb or March? I bet the RATS are up to something sneaky.
Because the RATs didn't have enough time between last night and midnight tonight to draft another Porkulus bill. They figure Tuesday ought give 'em enough time. Meanwhile, the Republicans put forth a one-page Continuing Resolution which extends it until, I think, April. The RATs can't accept that, because then the Republicans would be in charge.
Well said!!!!!! Your passion for your country is outstanding!
Sometimes one just has to go with what one’s heart is saying. You beat me to the punch, but no hard feelings—LOL.
maybe i’m crazy... but the thought of shutting down the spending pump doesn’t sound like such a bad idea.
I bet the RATS are up to something sneaky.
They’re always up to something sneaky. Apparently they will be scurrying all about trying to cook up something by Tuesday. Despiration is as despiration does.
As my Ol Grandad used to say, they wished in one hand and pooped in the other, guess which one filled up faster.
Exactly. For folks who rely on themselves and don't think that life means sucking on the federal teat, a government shutdown isn't such a horrible thing. But for the drones who live off the efforts of others, shutting down the government tantamount to depriving them of oxygen.
I can tell you that the federal civilian employees won't mind at all; they'll get paid anyway, so shutting down the government is a free vacation for them.
Re: shenanigans may not yet be over
Yep, I agree ... I anticipate two more attempts to fund Zerocare between now and Jan 5. I believe they will “package” and “repackage” to see if the RINOs in the Senate cave ... they only need a couple of the RINOs ...
Of course they are up to something. They intend to hold up further extentions pending a passed budget. No budget, no continuing resolution. Why would they be keeping themselves in session, along with the senate, were there not such a motive?
Meanwhile, the resolution pertains to keeping the government open. Essential functions of government will operate. Assuming they shut down the non essential functions, wait till no one notices there is no difference in outcomes.
