They should not be able to pass this kind of legislation in a lame-duck Congress.”

They shouldn't be allowed to pass anything without reading it.

Forcing it to be read only while the Senate is in session and has a quorum would help. Can they do quorum calls “after hours?”

Any senator who does not sit through the entire reading with his eyes and ears propped open should not be allowed to vote aye on it.

I was thinking the same thing. I thought, how many will sit there and listen?

That's an excellent idea!

I don’t know, it seems that they will read around the clock (if they actually proceed to that point) and I have no idea what the quorum requirements will be.

Good. Read every bill, and filibuster until the new Congress is seated.

Now, back to reality. If/when this passes anyway, Republicans will have NO say in any funding for they whole year coming up. This sucks.

So I say our side play this game too. We put forth a Continuing Resolution to fund the government for the next DECADE. Locked in spending levels, locked in tax levels. Dems don’t wanna pass it, shut down the government.

Play freakin’ hardball! Dammit!

Yeah right. And tomorrow I’ll read thathe Repubs backed down from their request because someone in the press might say bad things about them. More bluster from the spinless repubs.

Bump for tomorrow.

The president said a few words about him being “extreme” and he folded like a cheap suit.

APparently, reading isn’t your forte. They ARE going to read it. And there’s only one man to thank for pushing this. DeMint.

False.

DeMint threatened to have the START Treaty read — not the tax rate extension — unless and until Reid caved on when the treaty debate would begin. Reid caved, so DeMint called off the reading, recognizing there would be zero value in alienating fellow senators when he would need them on fighting the omnibus monstrosity.

Tactics.

And facts.

The Senate must be “in session” while the bill is read and any senator has the right to demand that a quorum be present while business is conducted. In theory, any senator could require that 50 members be in the chamber during the entire reading. If a quorum can’t be gathered, the senate must be adjourned until a quorum is present. That is not likely to be done, but it could be.

Any GOP’er that votes for this needs to be permanently expelled from the party.

“This is all theater.”

IT’S GOOD THEATRE.

I’m really tired of the GOP spinelessly going along with Reid’s latest outrage.

When they stand up and fight, they DO end up highlighting the outrage and the Senate leadership loses votes. We have 22 Democrats up for election in 2012. How many want to author this porkfest? and the DREAM Act? etc.

Every day we slow them down is another day that we stop them from hurting the country. Bring on the bill reading.

Get some slow readers. Recruit some from the local high school, and have aids standing by to sound out the big words.

The 23 RATS up for re-election in 2012 need to hear from their constituents immediately: support this omnibus spending monstrosity means a political death warrant in 2012.

People had better get engaged quickly.

We caught one break today with Senator Wyden (D-OR) - who supports the Omnibus — missing votes beginning tomorrow due to unanticipated prostate surgery. I wish the senator complete success with his surgery, but isn’t it tragic that Reid has so poisoned the system that we count heads for horrible public policy in a Lame Duck session while the RATS are giving the American people the finger?

“If they bring this up, they’re going to read it. It’ll take them a day or two to read it,” Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), who’s been pushing for the recitation, told Fox News

Too bad some already hung him on this site.

Read it only during working hours, there is no rush and everybody needs to hear it.

If the govt shuts down, fine, so be it.

I and millions of taxpayers don’t give a damn if it does.

It doesn't shut down, I heard a lady on a Chicago radio station who worked there during a previous administration, say that they leave a skeleton crew there to run things, just checks do not go out!
