Holbrooke's Hole

War On Terror: The death of skilled diplomat Richard Holbrooke is said to be a devastating blow to our Afghan war effort. But diplomats don't win wars; they do, unfortunately, often lose them.

'A huge vacuum." "A major void." "A towering, one-of-a-kind presence." These are some of the extravagant descriptions bandied about after the unexpected death Monday of the 69-year-old Obama administration envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, "AfPak czar" Richard Holbrooke.

The media love personalities, so it's no surprise to see this foreign policy adviser to four Democratic presidents rendered larger than life, especially since he'd been expected to become secretary of state in a Hillary Clinton administration.

Recorded as Holbrooke's crowning achievement are the Dayton Accords of 15 years ago, ending the Bosnian war. In fact, what this supposed peacemaking magician did then was identify the weakest link — the Muslim Bosniaks — and bully them into submission. And it didn't hurt that Holbrooke's talk was accompanied by U.S. action — in the form of airstrikes.

Funny how President Obama never sent the self-satisfied, condescending Holbrooke to try working his magic on convincing Tehran to abandon its nuclear weapons ambitions. Bullying achieves nothing when there's no muscle behind it. It's telling that Holbrooke's brief, unplanned encounter at The Hague with Iran's deputy foreign minister in March 2009 came to nothing.

Holbrook & the pig Kennedy are rendered larger than life, while republicans like Lee Atwater are depicted as tossing about on their deathbed, regretting the wretched way they treated their democrat opponents. No wonder Nancy Reagan guarded her husband's last days so fiercely.

No disrespect to Mr Holbrook intended, but who give a s**t what the media says about anything?

It is good to see at least one media outlet has the integrity to recall that the "Dayton Accords" were achieved at gunpoint.

“Dayton Accords”

Was anything but “negotiated” and gave only the appearance of “peace”. It bought in on the Muslim lies and trashed the Serbs as mass murderers. The truth about Bosnia will probably never be fully revealed to the American public.

You might simply write this off as Slick Willie’s Wag-the-Dog, but it was much worse than that. It lead directly to Kosovo and another atrocity.

Right. His alleged last words were an invocation to cause his replacement to go to the unemployment line.

He may have been all that (”arrogant bastard” etc.) But.. but I kind of like him because Bambi did not like him. In Bob Woodward’s thorough book Obama’s Wars about the inside machinations of the Afghan war decision making, Bob observed that Obama never warmed up to Holbrook. One of the funnier anecdotes was Holbrook threw in an idea to make the war more “Green”. He thought that would impress the Bamster. But they all concluded that he was simply nuts. He also correctly advised the real war was in Pakistan. Al Qaeda is no longer in Af and neither are significant numbers of Taliban. They are all in safe havens in Pakistan. Recall the Bush Doctrine, you’re either with is or with the terrorists...those who give refuge are just as guilty, etc.

Holbrooke belongs to that great army of arrogant leftists and one-worlders who have brought America to the brink of survival today.

We didn’t get here in just the two years of Kid-Obama’s reign.

If people like Holbrooke have done, and do, such a wonderful job why do things get worse and worse?
The elites fall all over themselves when they lose one of their own, as they do when ever a Kennedy dies.
I look at it as one less arrogant leftist to work on the destruction of America.

he was a statist govt wonk from the day he got out of college.....he sat there while LBJ thwarted a sitting Vietnamese leader and lowered IQ standards so Forrest Gumps could be drafted and become fodder for the war....a war that was botched by the likes of Holbrooke, Vance, McNamara, etc...

so he worked for 4 rat presidents?.....enough said!

rest in peace Mr. Holbrooke.....now the judgement comes......
