Reuters) - North Korea said on Friday the South and the United States were pushing the peninsula to "the brink of war" with their plan to conduct large-scale military drills, days after the rival Koreas exchanged artillery fire.
"The situation on the Korean Peninsula is inching closer to the brink of war due to the reckless plan of those trigger-happy elements to stage again war exercises targeted against the (North)," the North's official KCNA news agency

Somebody please call the UN we need to send North Korea another letter....
It may be the only way to help the ailing economy.
North Korea unveiled a huge wall poster in Pyongyang on the North Korean TV evening news just after the Yeongpyong island attack (Tuesday local), showing in a DPRK Pilot in a flight suit in the center, the subtitle said “1000 years to Kim Jong il!” (equivalent to Japanese war “banzai!”) and then the poster went on to say, “They (US) have nuclear power carriers but we can attack them.” They were playing military music over this as they showed the video of KPA personnel inspecting this huge poster.
Ping, and note.
IIRC it was only a few months ago the Chinese vehemently protested our joint military excercise in the Yellow Sea, and Hussein called it off. Now we have the North Koreans assaulting South Korea once again claiming basically the same reason.
Without the Chinese support the N.K. regime would not stand.
Makes me doubt this is strictly a N.Korean show to establish Kid Newbie on his Daddy’s throne.
I think this wreaks of Chinese influence personally.
What say you?
I would have preferred this about 10 years ago, before we let let them have nukes...but still better now than later.
North Korea is best Korea...........
“Makes me doubt this is strictly a N.Korean show to establish Kid Newbie on his Daddys throne.

You may be right. China may have decided that with a weak and indecisive US President at the helm..... that now is their best chance to move on Taiwan..... without us
doing anything quickly to stop it.
And they would probably be right in that assumption. In
two years they may get a US President with real balls.
What say you?
Let’s bomba Obama.
Seriously, you know China’s been keeping score for a long time, and you know they don’t take kindly to Obama lecturing them on manipulating their currency. This has China written all over it.
North Korea is totally dependent on China. This crisis is in Korea but its origin is in China.
Objectively, the situation is more serious in terms of casualty, and damage. Besides, this time, expansionist Chicom is also an major participant since U.S. carrier is sailing into Yellow Sea. However, people are more timid.
South Korea does not have the US in its corner, contrary to popular belief. Obama will hang them out to dry in a New York second. Of course, it’s not such a big problem for the South as long as the fight remains conventional. But if the NOrks go nuclear, that changes the whole equation.
And whether he blinks.
Or overplays his hand.
Elections have consequences, fellow Americans. NOW do they get it?
Yes. Red China a key interlocutor in this potential dust-up with it’s puppet/proxy.

YEONPYEONG ISLAND, South Korea (AP) South Korea said fresh artillery shots were heard Friday on this Yellow Sea island, three days after it was devastated by a North Korean attack and hours after Pyongyang warned that the peninsula was on the brink of war.
The blasts happened just after the top U.S. commander in South Korea, Gen. Walter Sharp, toured Yeonpyeong island in a show of solidarity with Seoul and to survey damage from the Tuesday's hail of North Korean artillery fire that killed four people.
An official at the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said several new rounds of artillery fire were heard Friday on Yeonpyeong, which is just 7 miles (11 kilometers) south of the North Korean mainland. The military official said several distant explosive sounds came from the direction of North Korea.
South Korea's YTN television network, citing an unidentified military official, said North Korea apparently was carrying out a military drill, and had fired up to 20 rounds. Yeonpyeong residents were fleeing to shelters, the report said. The report couldn't be immediately confirmed.
Perhaps, but the sub that sank the SK destroyer might be more of what Kim Jong Un has in mind for our carrier.
Now we get to find out if our defense money went to sub-sea interceptions of munitions, or if anything below the horizon was researched, funded, and deployed ala our anti-missile tech.
Scratch that article in 26. Seems to be a miss mash of older info. Wrongly dated. Word is this was just a military exercise which fired shells into the disputed border sea area north of the previously attacked island.
AIT, Do you know if this true? I hadn’t read this anywhere else. Thx.
