Dick's Sporting Goods (DSG) informed the American Family Association that "Christmas" will be incorporated into their advertising starting November 28. As a result AFA has called off its boycott.

"We have made significant changes from past years, when 'holiday' was the dominant theme of our advertising," Stated DSG Vice-Chairman William Columbo. He explained that the changes were already in the works before the AFA rallied boycott. Columno also apologized for not returning AFA's phone calls and letters.

Dick's issued a formal statement that outlined the following:

Beginning November 28 and continuing each Sunday through Christmas, Sunday newspaper inserts will read "Christmas 2010."

Dick's website will display the Christmas message in time for Thanksgiving.

Television commercials after November 28th will also mention the Christmas season.

Christmas isn’t about stores and malls. Buy less and give more this year.

We don;t have one of these stores in town. But - everything I read on web reviews leads me to believe they have, at best, crappy customer service, poor in store service, etc.

Are these reviews off, or is the store all that bad?

I’m curious, I don’t understand how they can stay in busines is things are that bad.....of course, one could say the same of Home Depot stores.

Anyone experience their goodness or not?

thx

The lesson here is simple. The left are cowards. They will insult us and push us around so long as we don’t fight back. When we fight, they cave.

Too little, too late. I’m still shopping at Cabela’s and Sportman’s Guide.

I agree with you there, though probably for reasons of my own. I never liked having to deal with the extensive advertisements for products over the Christian holidays, which is a sacred holiday in which I attend Church on behalf of for my religion. I could care less if a private retailer dropped Christmas themes for their ads, especially if it was through their own choice. At least to me, anyway, I just care that the spiritual aspect of that holiday is addressed, the fewer retailers that wear the name of that holiday in their ads, the better.

I yearn for the return to the days of a ‘sloganless society’.

Heard an advertisement today referring to today as the “First day of Black Friday Week”.

I see the Teamsters are protesting Toys R Us stores over the sale of “unsafe toys”. I notice they aren’t protesting other stores that are selling the exact same toys.

Hmmmmmmm

Your reasons are the same as mine. Every Christmas sale and store display I see tries to cheapen Christmas into just another Halloween, but with red, green, and white as its colors. Stores that spend a fortune on “Christmas decorations” to encourage people to run up debt for things they don’t need are offensive. I prefer to celebrate Christmas with my family and church, and not with the cashier at Target or Dicks.

Now now, unless stores cheapen Christ-Mass with reindeer, snowmen, and flying fat men (and the occasional graven image) - they are part of the WAR AGAINST CHRISTIANITY!!!!!

I agree with you. X-mas is a secular shopping event. Best they just go ahead and call it a “Happy Holiday” down at the mall. Christ-Mass will happen among families and congregations. “Happy Holidays” will happen down at the mall to the sound of the money changers ringing up sales.

I have found them to be very agreeable, we purchased something and at checkout the sale was over. The clerk went ahead and rang it up at the sale price. He said he had orders to do this for customer satisfaction.
