Who Is The Bigger Enemy: The Taliban, or Our Strategy?
Human Events ^ | 16 Nov 2010 | Chris Carter

"We are pinned down. We are running low on ammo. We have no air. We've lost today," Marine Maj. Kevin Williams told his Afghan translator as Afghan soldiers repeatedly asked for helicopter support. American military trainers and the Afghan soldiers they were working with had been pinned down by intense machine gun, rocket-propelled grenade, and mortar fire for several hours, and the artillery support they had been promised was being withheld by commanders at a nearby forward operating base.

The combined force of 60 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers, 20 Afghan border police, and 13 U.S. trainers set out before dawn on Sept. 8, 2009 to search the rugged Afghan village of Ganjgal in eastern Kunar province for weapons and to conduct a meeting with local officials. The town had just recently rejected the Taliban's authority in favor of the Afghan government. The village elders had requested that Afghan troops would conduct the sweep, and the embedded American trainers were present in case air or artillery support was required.

As the unit approached the village, situated in a valley encircled by craggy mountains, the town's lights suddenly turned off – a likely sign that the mission has been compromised. Minutes later, the first shots were fired at the column, and the force was quickly enveloped with heavy machine gun and rocket-propelled grenade fire. The Americans and Afghans took cover behind rock walls, and the enemy began an attempt to flank the pinned-down unit.

As a force of about 100-150 enemy fighters maneuvered to flank the unit, the American commander called for the helicopter and artillery support that had been assured before the men set out.

Very clearly Obama is our domemstic enemy. It is “his” strategy. Not “our” strategy.

That giant pop-up ad on their page was too much, I’ll skip it, National Review is doing that also.

This president who called servicemen ‘babykillers’. this president who cannot take advice, since he is The Great Karnak. This president, who cowers at the sight of an M-1 Garand rifle. This president, who cannot call a Mohammedan a terrorist, or a miscreant officer of the U.S. Army a criminal. This president, who is more about exercising control over his subjects, than doing what is right for the future of America. This president, who shirks his duty by being absent on more golfing trips and vacations than the Kennedys. This president, who cannot understand the heart of the American citizen, because he is not one. This president, who covers a religious symbol on the face of the podium he is to stand at, but speak of Mohammedanism with ‘the correct enunciation of their words’. This president, who cannot speak harshly of Iran, but slobbers at the opportunity to berate the Israeli Prime Minister. I cannot go on without crossing my own line of further detrimental adjectives.

Can I be honest?

It's hard to care when your own government does not have Americans best interest in mind, intentionally floods the country with tens of millions of illegally aliens, while forcing us to pay for it as they choke off our jails, schools and hospitals....All this while big biz ships off 100,000 companies to Communist China, and Mexico ....While millions of Americans lose their careers, jobs, homes retirements, pensions, investments as we watch our standard of living circle the drain.....

Who said anything about running?

Marines would totally kick Taliban butt if we cut them loose and gave them the right kind of air and ground support.

Americans need to consider carefully the decision for war... Be clear on who their enemy is, and determine to destroy that enemy. Recognize there is no clean, polite or gentlemanly way to kill a stranger. If you are not prepared to kill all those that stand with and support your enemy, then surrender to him,for he has already defeated you.

This is from the home page of Freeper River Rat. It needs no explanation.

Barry had planned to ‘slow walk’ the Afghan War to a quiet death, resulting in situations like the above.

Since the elections he will now put the war into overdrive to have some success to show in 2012. That will result in just as much of a problem for our troops.

why wouldn't you care?

If predictions are right, I still have more than half my life ahead of me. But maybe that's the problem: we have a big aging population that only cares about the next 10-20 or so while they're still alive. They don't care about 30-40 years down the road when they're dead and people like me are still picking up their mess.

“Who Is The Bigger Enemy: The Taliban, or Our Strategy?”

It’s our G-d damn stupid strategy!

A strategy thought up by decent compassionate people who think they can replicate the successful nation building of Europe and Asia in a ‘nation’ that has never been a modern nation ever!

Afghanistan has as much of chance to coalesce into a nation as North America in 1491.

If Bush or another Republican was president, the quagmire in Afganistan would be heavily protested. The left would be all over the president.

I think that we should leave. I see another Vietnam developing. The Taliban can hide without consequence in Pakistan. The local population is developing into a Vietcong.

The major difference is that Vietnam never had any ability to inflict harm on us. Al Queda, using Afghanistan as a base, can inflict great harm. We cannot fight a never ending war. We are bankrupt living on economic fumes. If we see a malignancy developing after we leave, we will need to flatten it. We cannot keep our finest in this civil insurrection.
