Dear Airline, I'm Leaving You
Atlantic ^ | 11/19/10 | Megan McArdle

Posted on 11/19/2010 10:07:29 AM PST by Nachum

But don't feel too bad. It's not you, it's me. Or rather, it's the TSA.

I'm not going to lie. It's come between us. If I have to let someone else see me naked in order to be with you--well, I'm just not that kinky. And deep down, I don't think you are either. I think it's the TSA making you act like this. Frankly, you haven't been the same since you started running around together.

But I can't put all the blame on them. I think you went along because you thought I had to have you--that I couldn't live without you. That no matter what you did, I'd stay. And it's true, you had a pretty strong hold on me. Took away the food, and I still loved you--who wanted to eat a terrible, fattening meal anyway? Narrowed the distance between the seats, and still I stayed, using my airline miles to upgrade to first class. Charge me for baggage? I'm an economics writer--I love unbundled products. So I can see where you got the idea that I'd stick by you no matter what.

But the kinky stuff is just a bridge too far. I'm not saying I'll never see you again: we can still meet up for a drink, or even a quick weekend trip to California. But our days are a regular item are through.

It’s a legitimate question. But my first guess would be that they were too detached from reality to anticipate the outcry that the new approach would bring.

Why do I have the funny feeling that this might be part of the leftist strategy? Make everyone so sick of flying that they start taking trains instead.

It is merely more of the communist playbook. Control medicine, money, food, and travel. Once they have all that then they can be as violent as they wish without fear.

Sounds like an idea worth exploring. Rental car companies would not be too happy about that idea but I would consider loading my auto and riding in it via moving express train. Potty stops could be an issue however.

Yep, me too from now on...in my ‘94 Volvo “gross polluter” (according to CA). It’s reliable, comfortable, cheap to maintain. My company pays for gas, so what do I care?

The left wants you to leave so they can then take over the too big to fail failing airines.

I don’t know why everybody is blaming the airlines for this and wanting to punish them.

It's not that we're blaming the airlines, it's that they're the only ones with sufficient clout to push back, and they won't do that unless they lose a heck of a lot of business.

Amtrak has an “Auto Train”. Load your car on in Lorton Virginia and get off around Cape Canaveral, FL. Good idea in theory.

Reality, not so good - costs more than flying and takes longer than driving. If there’s an additional delay on the tracks (which happens frequently) you’re further out of luck.

The airlines are fully complicit in this. They are closing their eyes to these sexual assault crimes because they are making money from it. This is the same thing as IBM selling computer technology to the Nazi’s to facilitate the genocide.

Who do you think would get more attention with a phone call a Congressman’s office? Cyber Liberty, one of the several hundred thousand votes it took to elect him, or Glenn Tilton, CEO of United Airlines?

I think this came from Gallagher:

I never fly on TWA; Travel With Arabs. I prefer DELTA - Don't Even Let Them Aboard.

Not me, I'll drive my car.

I was talking to a buddy this morning. He races offshore power boats for fun. He was in Key West a few days back on a 2 million dollar boat. As we stood by one of my cars which is something that is VERY fast we both wondered if maybe in a few years we would not be able to play with such toys anymore.

I'm sick of these gay pukes like Obama and all the other wimpy SOB girls we have in Washington. They are slowly taking all the fun and excitement out of living.

All this garbage in the airports is just silly. The muzzies are going to shoot off all the MANPADS they have smuggled in to the country one day and that is what we need to focus on. Not feeling up Americans.

Well, there’s another possibility at work here, too.

If they can use the TSA to drive the airlines into bankruptcy, then they can pull a General Motors on the airlines, merge them altogether, and turn them into Government Airlines.

Obama would love that.

It would also give them an excuse to nationalize all the airports, taking them away from cities, counties, and states.

Good idea don't fly. Flying is never going to be as fun as it used to be mostly because the passengers are idiots and the planes are always full. Folks that obcess about the TSA have surely never flown outside the country

I was thinking that the non-Amtrak railroads might be able to pull it off better. Amtrak is a disaster.

The airlines have the ability to opt out of this travesty. The only way to stop it is to do what we are doing, refuse to fly and raise a huge stink about it. That's exactly what is being done.

Of course getting this administration out of office would help considerably. Hurry and swear in the new Congress!

Bingo! Destroy the airline industry, nationalize the spare parts while building Willie Green’s choo-choos all over the place with all the government kickbacks that come with them. Anyone who resists will be sent to the Democrat Re-education camps by, of course, trains. Sound familiar?

I predict websites that match up passengers with drivers for longer trips. Car pooling on a grand scale.

The auto train actually usually arrives ahead of schedule and costs about as much as it would be to fly. Plus you save the cost of renting a car. I just made a reservation for a trip that is 986.00 round trip for two with a sleeper room and you get your meals to boot. Not a bad deal.

Unless you are going to be at your destination for a couple of weeks and/or you simply love traveling by train (as I do) and absolutely hate flying, you would be better off financially by flying and then renting a car.
