Profile Muslims or Pat Down the Masses?
The American Thinker ^ | November 18, 2010 | Selwyn Duke

With all the bad press the TSA has received recently, we can't be sure if the acronym stands for Transportation Security Administration, Touches Sensitive Areas, or Truly Scandalous Attention. But, for sure, its pat-downs and sci-fi radiation screeners give many of us another good reason to avoid the increasingly unfriendly skies. Yet while the TSA right now has supplanted the IRS as the bureaucracy we most love to hate, its policies are merely part of a longstanding cultural trend: the failure to recognize that the good of the many outweighs the good of the few.

It's the same reason why certain cities, most notably London, are now surveilling their residents with thousands of video cameras. If you're not willing to administer punishment sufficient to deter all the criminally inclined save a few intractable miscreants, some of whom you can catch, the only other solution is to have an all-seeing Big Brother that can catch all. It's much like treating a cancer: If you cannot target just the affected tissue, the only other solution is to treat the whole body.

Because the former is preferable not just in medicine, but also law enforcement, behavioral sciences specialists long ago developed the method called "profiling." Unfortunately, social-engineering specialists soon after discredited the universal application of profiling with a method called propaganda. Consequently, when we want to administer targeted treatment in the effort to thwart terrorism, we're told that it's "racial profiling" and beyond consideration. This is utter nonsense.

Someone needs to do a political cartoon showing and old lady being patted down as Osama bin Laden passes through un touched or questioned

What is the most effective way to get Americans pissed off, willing to be victims for court cases, willing to openly oppose the TSA, and opting out of airline travel, willing to make agencies all along the tourism path lose money and to further hurt the economy?

Maybe Soros gets all the sexy scans to leer at with his commie sons, since helped pay for the scanner development.

We are being subjected to this because TSA has failed miserably to prevent ‘undesirables’ from getting on planes from outside the USA and attempting to wreak havoc on us, US.

The crotch bomber had no passport, no luggage, a one way ticket paid in cash, and was coming to Detroit in December wearing only a sweatshirt. AND, his father had warned the authorities that his son had been radicalized and was planning to cause harm.

I think the "Thinker" has it backwards. The "cultural trend", more accurately decline, is based on the failure to recognize that our Country is based on individual rights, not group rights. Affirmative action, the victim culture, and even the disgrace at our airports is a result of denying individuals their rights for the good of the "group".

This is wrong and anti-American.

When you leave the screener job up to dumbasses, you can expect dumbass results.

Fortunately, the Crotch Bomber and the Shoe Bomber, to name two, were even dumber.

Keeping the airlines safe is not a job for AA hires.

I think he is hitting on favoritism toward a protected minority over the needs of the majority in US society.

Videos of the screeners stealing from the passengers, looking away from monitors, etc. you just KNOW that luck is all that has kept us safe since the maoist was elected.

Millions upon millions of homeland security dollars to NY and we had a street vendor notice a smoking auto parked illegally in the theater district. No police officer noticed or bothered to investigate.

New Year’s Eve a rookie cop noticed a van that had been parked in Times Square illegally for days. Fake license plates, windows covered with black trash bags, etc. That van had been there for DAYS.

If Times Square doesn’t get priority attention why give NYC another dime for security.

I agree.

Time for another “DC to NY: ‘Drop Dead’” headline.

No more funding of incompetence to achieve a particular social outcome (Airing AA losers. A redistributionist policy).

“...TSA has failed miserably to prevent ‘undesirables’ from getting on planes from outside the USA...”

This is a very important point that most people don’t seem to get. The TSA is always responding to the last threat with their procedures, instead of using available intelligence to accurately profile and intercept high risk individuals.

Those Saudis who attended the Florida flight school were very suspicious in that they had no interest in learning how to land, just take off, cruise, and navigate to a fixed target. But since there was a Clinton government mandated firewall preventing information sharing between federal law enforcement agencies, they (mostly) succeeded in the 9/11 attacks. Remember Jamie Gorlick? Like Janet Reno, I don’t remember her feet ever being held to the fire over this.

The Flight 93 hijack didn’t succeed because a handful of average Americans decided against passivity (as advised by our superiors up until then) and got involved, and thwarted the terrorists’ plans.

The terrorists are not stupid. And now they’ve successfully continued their jihad against Americans by using the TSA to effectively punish each and every one of us who has the audacity to fly.

And once again, it will up to the common sense of the average American to set things right. It’s obvious from the comments of Congress that they still don’t get it.

How outrageous of slovenly sis to say that the ‘system worked’ after the passengers wrestled the crotch bomber into submission and poured water on him to put out the fire.

And underwear, of course :)

Seriously, your point is well taken.
He fit the profile to a T. He should have been detained, and not allowed to board.

John Gibson was all over this yesterday on his radio show.

America, please RISE ABOVE THE TRAP OF PORN CULTURE YOU HAVE FALLEN INTO.

The major reason that people are willing to support these searches, imo, from reviewing thousands of reactions on YouTube videos and many blog, is that common porn culture has debased the ability of too many to object on a proper spiritual basis. It is showing as the inability to object to that which is morally intolerable in a morally tolerable way.

When a third or more of comments are expressing a joy in either being felt up, or a desire to further debase the process by undressing, making even more rude comments, or snaky comments about the “junk” of others — that’s a clue. A further clue is in that half or more of the comments on the non-moderated blogs and You Tube readily resort to profanities.

A debased culture may be unable to reject official policies that further the debasement. I pray this is not the case. And in any case, no moral person accepts such excuses but instead picks up the sword and buckler and strides onward.

If you profile, you must profile.

America has implemented a no profile policy to protect the criminal black culture. Black criminals have become exempt because they are culturally protected by their leaders who insist there is no harm.

America suffers so the criminal black culture can be protected. Terrorist Islamic mideasterners get a pass to protect the black community.

Not watching TV or listening to the radio for more than a few minutes at a time, it’s heartening to know I’m not inventing unreasonable conclusions to the world around us these days.

Personal issues take precedence these days. sigh.
