EDITORIAL: The U.N.'s global tax scheme--As one global-warming tax fades, another rises
The Washington Times ^ | November 12, 2010 | Editorial

The world's leftists dream of the day when they might erect an international taxation system. Such would be the bottomless well from which they could exploit the world's productive energies to bankroll utopian schemes and build bigger, better and, most important, higher-paying global bureaucracies. Steps were taken last week to make this dream a reality.

At the Group of 20 meeting in South Korea, a coalition of 183 organizations from 42 countries called for a tax on financial transactions to raise funds to offset the impact of the global economic crisis. The so-called Robin Hood Tax would underwrite a number of programs with the purported aim of "reducing the unacceptably high rate of job loss, and achieve key development, health, education and climate change objectives in developing countries." How this miracle would be achieved is unclear. Taking money from productive enterprise and sinking it into bloated government programs is an unlikely recipe for success. Nonetheless, proponents of the Robin Hood Tax are convinced that government austerity drives, such as the one under way in Britain, are more of a threat to the disadvantaged than looming worldwide insolvency.

Global warming is the favorite excuse cited to justify an international tax regime. Earlier this month, a U.N. climate commission proposed a tax on international financial transactions that would serve as a fund that poorer nations could use to mitigate the effects of "climate change." Other taxes would be levied on international transport, which might include a special U.N. tax attached to airline tickets. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon rather optimistically called the proposal "financially feasible and politically viable"...

Bureaucrats prosper but big government programs only make things worse for the ordinary people. Who would be so foolish as to agree to it on a global scale?

The U.N. needs to be closed posthaste — it has gone from being useless to being an overt threat to liberty.

and get the muslim marxist out of the business office of the US of A. That alone will heal a lot of the US unemployment as well as peripheral unemployment. Once the American economy is working again others will follow.

We have to make it crystal clear that we won’t accept any taxes on the part of any international body, and whats more important, we’ll vote out of office anyone who even hints that he might accept such a thing.

No Law of the Sea Treaty. Nothing that even hints at a loss of sovereignty.

And we have to make it stick. And we have to impeach any judge anywhere who even hints that he is considering foreign law in any judicial decision. Foreign law is great for foreigners. They should enjoy it every chance they get. But within our borders it has no reach. Anyone who tries to bring it in has violated the public trust and needs to be removed from office, like, now.

Couldn’t agree more...We shouldn’t pay one dime for a global tax, we already pay billions in foreign aid and shouldn’t be paying that in many cases.

The foreign law thing is a no brainer. Any true American can in no way accept foreign law, of course many that are calling for it are not Americans and some, such as judges that use it, are not true Americans.

“a coalition of 183 organizations from 42 countries called for a tax on financial transactions to raise funds to offset the impact of the global economic crisis.”

This crap won’t end until we start killing these Nazis and Communists. I’m not saying we need to start doing this tomorrow, but keep the idea in your back pocket.

I’ll vote for the candidate who runs with that.
