Power Politics: The Aztec calendar forecasts doom in two years. Looming on the election calendar is the possibility of a second wave that will end the Democrats' world as they know it for a long time.
Analysis of last Tuesday's results shows just how big the GOP wave was. Republicans took control of at least 19 legislative bodies, giving them control of both chambers in at least 26 states. After the 2010 census, the party will play a dominant role in redrawing some 314 congressional districts.
Republicans won 16 of 30 races for state attorney general, taking five away from the Democrats. And in a stunning rebuke to George Soros and his Secretary of State Project to control our election machinery, Republicans won 17 of 26 secretary of state races a gain of six. They hold the majority of governors, including pivotal states such as Florida, Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
The GOP may even have the good fortune of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi remaining the poster child for dysfunctional government. ABC News reported Friday Pelosi was calling every Democratic House member who won on Tuesday, as well as many who lost, to gauge her support for remaining minority leader.
While we share the disappointment at the re-election of such legislative Smurfs as Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer and Patty Murray, the GOP's failure to take Senate control is a blessing in disguise.
Full control of Congress would have let Obama run against Republicans and blame them for obstructionism and failure of the economy to recover. As it is, we still have Harry Reid to kick around.

That's less than half of the 57 . . . oh, wait.
And 2008 was the end of conservatism.
I never understood this Soros SoS deal until recently.
Went to their website and read them bragging about getting Franken in via the Minn SoS.
So reversing this trend is big. As Rush said today, looking at the 2010 results big picture, it was a disaster for Dems that will play out for years to come.
NEWS FLASH: The reason that calendar ends with 2012? They came to the end of the rock they were chiseling on and called it quits.
“Looming on the election calendar is the possibility of a second wave that will end the Democrats’ world as they know it for a long time.”
Yes - If the conservatives reduce spending, attempt to reduce taxes, and act responsibly.
No - If the conservatives spend like drunken sailors (remember the last time they took control of the House and Senate), and forget why they were elected.
He is going to do this regardless.. besides all it takes is a few Whimsy Flimsy Repubes, to go along with him on something, and then zero will claim, "Bi-partisanship".

Very true, control of the Senate would have been more a symbolic victory than anything else. We’re not going to do much legislatively with 0 still around but at least we can now stop a lot of the nonsense and I’d much rather have Reid to deal with as opposed to Schumer. Control of the Senate and a real president comes in 2 more years
Is there not a calendar somewhere that forecasts doom every year? Eventually one of them will be correct.
We beat a SOS project candidate soundly in Michigan and elected Ruth Johnson who has been a regular pitbull on vote fraud as a county clerk and registar of deeds.
Also important is the fact that democrats aren’t done losing seats. At least one district is going to disappear from the Michigan map.
A stellar analysis.
That may be truer than most of us realize. The Mayan Calendar, for whatever it’s worth, ends one cycle in 2012, it in no way predicts the end of the world. From what little I know about these things.
It means 2012 is the beginning of the next cycle. Hmmmmm...
That would be the Mayan calendar.
Oh, and that one doesn't predict any gloom at all. It is just the end of a long Galactic cycle that (drum roll, please) just starts over again.
Ping
It doesn't "forecast doom", its numbering system hits its limit. Much like many computer programs did in 2K and more will in 2033 or something like that. I'm sure we'll survive.
It's the odd number that throws you off. 26 is WAY more than half.
>>Republicans took control of at least 19 legislative bodies,<<
How many legislative bodies is there?
