TRENTON State government is on track to shed at least 1,200 jobs in January, Gov. Chris Christie said today.
"Whether it will grow beyond that, I don't know," he said at a Statehouse press conference. "That's very much going to be dependent on what the revenue outlook looks like for the state."
[Snip]
Christie's budget proposal, unveiled in March, called for cutting 1,300 state workers, including union and nonunion employees. He said the cuts would save $8.8 million.

It’s a start............
Well done, Gov. C!!
Wow !
This might reveal my lack of economic savvy...would be great if the cuts involve all UNION employees rather than non-union employees. Yes?
It should NOT depend on revenue, to determine how many useless leeches to cut off.
Christie SHOULD say we will conduct extensive zero based budget cycle, to determine essentials, and cut everything else.
It should reduce expenses, and use the surplus to pay down debt.
The more AFSCME layoffs, the better.
I'm hoping Kasich goes the same route in Ohio now, as he's already been hinting that he's gonna get the budget and handouts in order.
A drop in the bucket, but a start
Christie has freaking brass ones.
Keep up the good work Governor, but lets not hear all the Presidential talk, let him get this job done. If he can get it done here there will be plenty of time for him to move up.
Lord knows we need someone to move up.
Was just reading that the Iowa governor-elect has asked the heads of all state agencies to submit their resignations, then he’ll later decide whether he’s going to keep any of them. Maybe some of the governors get it.
Hope they’re all those gravy-guzzling toll-booth operators that were pulling down six-figure salaries.
I heard Kasich or Tancredo say the other day that if he won he would try to get Govs like Christie to join him in the fight to return states rights. Maybe if a good # of Govs join up they can fight the federal govt. better than the congress can. Lets hope so.
Other than saving money, which is great, I wonder if anyone will notice any decrease is services?
Kasich and budgets....now that’s going to fun to watch.
Looks like the DMV is one of the targets for the cuts:
“Hetty Rosenstein, state director of the Communications Workers of America, which represents 55,000 state employees, said the state Motor Vehicles Commission, which handles vehicle registrations and drivers licenses, has been targeted.”

Cutting 1300 jobs at state government comes to 8.8 million if they only make a salary of $6800 per year. That's like 1962 wages.
1300 jobs eliminated at 67,000 per year comes to $47,771,000.
I wouldn't exactly celebrate that kind of savings.
Luckily, Ohio is now back from the Blue; we will recover. States like Kalifornia and New York are lost causes, Dem-controlled enclaves that will be begging for “Federal Funds” from us to stave off bankruptcy.
“Other than saving money, which is great, I wonder if anyone will notice any decrease is services?”
You might see an *increase* in services from the remaining lucky ones who will be terrified of getting the ax next.
