DeMint needles GOP leaders in congratulating conservatives
The Hill ^ | 11/02/10 | Michael O'Brien

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) needled his own party's leaders in congratulating Republicans Rand Paul and Marco Rubio's victory in the Kentucky Senate race.

"I want to congratulate Rand Paul on winning a race that the leaders in his own party said he could not win," DeMint said in a statement. "Rand overcame difficult odds because he consistently stood up for conservative principles."

Paul is one of the crop of GOP candidates this cycle allied with the Tea Party movement to have beaten an establishment-backed choice in the Republican primary. He beat Secretary of State Trey Grayson in an upset victory in the GOP primary.

That primary split conservatives like DeMint, who's sponsored likeminded GOP candidates through his Senate Conservatives Fund, from senior leaders such as Sens. Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and John Cornyn (Texas).

"I was honored to be an early supporter of his campaign, and I look forward to working with him in the Senate," DeMint said.

What’s with all the fags on FNC? Every one of them is saying that the Republicans need to know that “the voters aren’t in love with them”. Who said they were? I didn’t vote for Republicans today because I was in love with them and not one Republican asked me to have a love affair with them. What the hell is up with this “love” thing? Have all the talking heads gone gay or what?

Like I;ve noticed all night long...

The GOP elites never mentions Palin nor the Tea Party. DeMint was right. The GOP empty heads thought the GOP was solely responsible for the tsunami but it was the Tea Party that was the engine.

I’m cautious about Marco Rubio, because he flip-flopped on the illegal immigration issue! ALL FREEPERS MUST KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON MARCO RUBIO AND WHAT HE DOES WITH ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION ISSUES! Comprende?

Yup. He’s the next Scott Brown. Another RINO in the making.

When did he flip flop - I must have missed it because I thought he was for legal immigration only- what has he said differently?

I think they are referring to the fact that he was somewhat weak on AZ1070

Yeah, I loved how the GOP was taking credit for this and called it their grass roots movement.

Gimme a break.

Republicans are not off the hook, and they better remember that.

The GOP leadership needs to go. They refuse to recognize the tea party and the will of the people. They campaigned against O’Donnell and practically endorsed Murkowski after she lost the primary. They hate Palin and undermine her at every turn. They’re bent on being the “liberal-lite” party.
