FOX News: "I don't understand the inconsistency here," Dr. Charles Krauthammer said on PBS's "Inside Washington" Friday night. Another guest on the panel was NPR's Nina Totenberg, whom Krauthammer targeted for her consistent liberal bias.
"Why is it okay for Nina to express opinions as she has tartly, sharply, unashamedly and openly? And she's an honored correspondent there; in fact, they mention your status here on ["Inside Washington"] in your biography at NPR. And Juan, because he expresses his opinions, he gets canned from NPR," Dr. Krauthammer said.
Totenberg said she's been put in an "awkward position" with the uproar and offered her explanation of why Williams was singled out for dismissal. "In the modern journalistic world, where people are asked to give opinions all the time whether you're a regular on a show like this or not, if you cover a story you may be asked to appear on a television show and talk about it. I think it's a very very difficult line to draw. And NPR tries to draw it, in my view, using rules that don't exist anymore."
"I have personal opinions that I will not share with you," NPR's Nina Totenberg said, who has not been afraid to share her opinions before. Juan's firing was not "popular on the floor" at NPR.

I know this is a shallow thing to say, but I can’t help myself—I’ve never been able to take Totenberg seriously because the few times I’ve seen her I’ve burst out laughing due to her resemblance to Lily Tomlin’s Ernestine character.
I don’t have a lot of love for Krauthammer but he did well in hammering Nina. She ducked, weaved and equivocated. Unfortunately the panel let her get away with it.
Nina Totenberg always expresses herself as if she were utterly witless and guided only by her insatiable appetite for personal elitism. There is nothing about her that is caring, genuine or humane. She is a characterization of her liiberal elitist world view. That, more than anything else, is what endears her to the PBS crowd.
All I can say is screw the terrorista la raza CAIR liberal marxist muslim Islamic scum bag goat doinking PC crowd, fugetaboutdem, stinkin rats.
Charles and the Four Stooges. (Charles remains on review.)
Nina,
If you had any integrity, you would resign from NPR. Your hypocrisy, and your recognition of your own hypocrisy, is painful to watch.
What has become of our country? What has become of the 4th Estate? What an embarrassment before the world.
Good for him. These lefties are not elitists. They are phonies.
I just watched the clip. Good God, what a boring show. Mark Shields has always been an oaf, but now he’s just like one of those paid airtime guys. The one sitting next to Krauthammer—did she stumble in from picking up her kids from a playdate or something? I hate this namby-pamby mush-mouth stuff. The other two—oy, who could watch this week after week? Krauthammer is obviously an intellectual and just said it all, clearly and succinctly.
Your characterization of Totenberg sure seems spot-on to me. She was SO liberal on these talk shows, and NPR has never had a problem with her being opinionated, and she’s a REPORTER, not someone like WIlliams, whose whole reason for being on these shows is to give his OPINION, not to report.
They did, but by the end of the video she was looking like she wished she could find a hole to crawl in.....slinking/slouching in her chair with her arms folded and staring at her coffee mug.
Krauthammer showed what bunch of lying hypocrites all the others at the table are in reality.
Nina Totenberg was the kook newsmaker who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to drum up the witch hunt against Clarence Thomas during his confirmation hearings. She is by no means a journalist.
Because she has only nice things to say about muslim terrorists.
It has largely been supplanted by bloggers and forum debaters.
You are now it.
The dinosaurs are left in the old media. The agile and the talented have moved on.
NPR has thrown away it’s excuse for existing.
That Colby King slurred Christianity...in insinuating that Timothy McVeigh was a Christian....McVeigh said he was an agnostic!!!!!!!! On paper and others have said it also.
He does and we do. Just follow the money
Defund NPR now, and prohibit any local public station that receives federal funds from remitting any funds to NPR.
Unfortunately the bigger and more important story is being missed. This wasn’t NPR firing Juan - it was CAIR, an islamist front group for the Muslim Brotherhood.
NPR is just one of their puppets. This is where the spotlight should be rightly shone.
