Germany to do away with U.S. nukes?
UPI ^ | 10/7/2010 | UPI

The German Defense Ministry has denied a newspaper report that it plans to decommission its entire fleet of Tornado jets by 2013, a move that would effectively end a nuclear weapons sharing deal with the United States.

Guarded by U.S. soldiers, an estimated 22 U.S. nuclear weapons are locked away in the bunkers under the Fliegerhorst Buechel, an airbase in Rhineland-Palatinate run by the German Luftwaffe. The B-61 thermonuclear bombs, which can be dropped from low-flying jets at high speeds, signify the ultimate nuclear deterrent: They're 13 times more devastating than the bomb dropped over Hiroshima in 1945.

As part of a nuclear weapons sharing deal with the United States, the German Luftwaffe pilots in their Panavia Tornado bombers stationed at Buechel are training in the deployment of the weapons.

If I recall, that will only leaves Kleinne-Brogel, Aviano,Vokel and RAF Lakenheath as repositories.

We should pull our troops and OUR NUKES out of germany COMPLETELY. let them fend for themselves and pay their own way.

If japan (or any other country) doesn’t want us, let’s pull out and let them fend for themselves, that means we pull ALL our troops AND OUR weapons, if they haven’t paid us for them we take them with us. And we DON”T sell them to them while we are leaving, we take them back with us.

Financially, it will hurt.

Germany is doing the right thing for the US.

Why store your weapons on what is likely to be occupied enemy territory in the future..?

We can and regularly do reach out and touch anyone anywhere from myriad domestic locations within hours.

In addition to fretting over who has gained control over our weapons and technology; who needs to pondern the destrustion of ones own arsenal situated where some neurotic logistics colnel last decade thought was a nice place for a munitions hold.

Most of Europa is already lost. They know this. We still do not.

My cuz’ serves in Sokor and believe, just like those kraut ingrates, the vibe he got for the past 4 years is that the population “think” they can stop Nokor but cant, so the US is there. But the actual attitude there in-base is that the reason why there are there is to eventually win the war vs Nokor, and checkmate China. “helping” Sokor? Yeah right, that’s secondary/last to what they feel in their BN.

Maybe we could just quit sending money to our enemies to use to buy nuclear weapons.

This is a great plan for the Germans. It reminds me of the Vichy French. Let’s get rid of our ground based defensive missiles and replace them with missiles which will impact us from another country.

See, same number of missiles in our country, only our country no longer exists. Gotta love those Germans.

Agreed.
Keep what’s needed to support Afghanistan & Iraq and bring home everyone/everything else. It’s time Europe paid for its own defense, assuming they even have the will to defend themselves.

I don’t see the rest of Europe ALLOWING Germany to fend for itself militarily. Europe, outside of Germany hasn’t fared too well with that, historically....

I agree with both of you, and have done so for a very long time.

I think we should withdraw from Afghanistan. It has never been a modern nation and is not one now. Trying to build a cohesive nation in a place more akin to North America circa 1491 is crazy!

Let the present government there come to an agreement with the Taliban.

Make sure that both understand that if ever there is another attack on the United States originating from their country, we will wipe out all their cities.

We should treat Al Qaida, a stateless terrorism force, just like one treats pirates, another stateless terrorism force.

We must hunt them down mercilessly and kill them. Wherever they hide or take shelter, we make it so incredibly painful for whatever nation is providing succor or support, that they will expel or kill the terrorist/pirates themselves.

I've always said that Pakistan was a snake den. We should treat them for what they are — our enemy.

Concur. Those babies should be destroyed and kept as decoys or brought home asap.

This article is B.S. in my opinion.

The only reason Europeons have been able to experiment with socialism since the end of WWII is because we have supplemented their strategic defense.

Germans are too smart and realize without Americas help, they would have to fully commit to their own defense and they cannot afford to do it. They haven’t will or the money.

As far as most Europeans are concerned...the cold war is over. What is left, is a economic war, with lots of new players. So this nuke business is just a leftover without much value. The recovery of Russia today...only happens if Europeans buy their natural gas and oil. War strategy in Europe has finally run out of options.

I think we can pretty forget NATO within five years and just get on with life.

I wonder does the USAF have any F-15E's based in Europe. The F-15E Strike Eagle is certified to carry both the B61 and B83 nuclear bombs and could take over the mission now carried out by the Luftwaffe Tornado attack planes.

This new economic war in europe appears to have taken all the refineries in France off line as of yesterday.

Europa is still the same mess that it ever was; Only now we have the beloved One occupying a position that formerly had capability of American power projection, or credible threat thereof...

When the Europeans yet again descend into mayhem and mass slaughter they will find their populations subject to the tender mercies of the remnant soviets, or chicom imperial expansionists.

It is hard to believe that one man and one congress could neuter this nations ability to maintain a perception of global order, but such has indeed been accomplished.

I am liking the decoys idea.

Too bad the Germans publicly squeezed the poop out of the pony.

My brother instructs crews on the boats that will end it all.

We have capability under sea that is unfathomable and detrimental to civilization in the extreme if unleashed.

The terrifying part of the equation is the fact that we have placed partial command and control over these platforms in the hands of a malignant narcissistic community organizer wingnut from a spit hole Chicago ghetto.

“Partial” being the operative word. Those in command of these platforms are not subject or willing to consider anything other than the requirements physical reality and objective situational analysis that any given moment presents, or dictates.

Consider the competence of a cap with 40+ warheads and the ability to disappear and reappear, vs his cic.

It amazes that this country and its people remain as stable as demonstrated. It also amazes that no protocol has yet fractured.

Won’t happen. The U.S. forces are currently building their new European command headquarter (’little Pentagon’) for 550 million Dollar in Wiesbaden/Germany. It will be finished in 2015 and employ 1200 personel.
