Newt Gingrich’s false play for ‘birther’ votes - ALAN KEYES
Loyal to Liberty ^ | October 13, 2010 | Alan Keyes

Posted on 10/13/2010 9:46:03 AM PDT by EternalVigilance

According to a recent WorldNetDaily article “former House Speaker and potential GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich used an appearance on Spanish language television to sound off on questions surrounding… Obama’s birthplace and religious faith declaring the president has an “obligation” to figure out why so many Americans doubt his life story”. The article reports that “the former speaker insisted that Obama was “absolutely” born in the United States and is a Christian”.

Gingrich’s remarks are an apt illustration of the main reason why it’s so difficult to have confidence in Republican leaders like him. It’s too obvious that everything they do and say is motivated by partisan calculation rather than by any sincere concern for the integrity of the Constitution and the liberty it is supposed to establish. In this instance, for example, by saying that he believes that Obama was absolutely born in the United States Gingrich dutifully aligns himself with the elite party line. He then seeks to pander to the persistent and still growing number of Americans who have reasonable doubts about Obama’s background. But Gingrich does not treat those doubts as reasonable. Instead he ascribes them to fear and anxiety. In this way, as a mouse skillfully maneuvers to pinch the cheese without springing the trap, Gingrich poses as someone who understands and sympathizes with those who have these doubts. Meanwhile, by contemptuously ascribing those doubts to irrational passions he makes shift to avoid the brickbats of his elitist buddies.

As per usual, Dr. Keyes is on point.

Gingrich is a RINO. He should just shed the facade and go Democrat.

At least Gingrich is accurate in stating his opinion as to Obama’s birth place as a belief, because it takes an act of faith to hold that opinion, given that there is no valid documentation available to support it. Obama may belittle those who cling to their faith, but he maintains a hold on his ill-gotten position only through the faith of his supporters and purported detractors who opt to view him as a god despite overwhelming evidence of his fraud.

Newt is plain out ling! Anything to get votes.

It is so frustrating that many who have potential to be good, turn aside to be all things to all men. I do not trust Newt for a minute. He is actually an internationalist. Not desirable in my mind.

He has spoken favorably regarding our Christian roots, and made a great DVD about it. Very good. However,IE he is friends with many of the people that Bill and Hillary were and are friends with during their term. Newt is not what he portrays. His conservative side is not very conservative in truth. MO

I fear he is too aligned with the Obama liberals in many areas.

I think all you VRWC members are just mean-spirited!

America has always been the sort of country where even a light-in-the-loafers kid from Mombasa can aspire to the highest office in the land, particularly if no one important is watching! With powerful friends to pay the bills and operate behind the scenes, all a bright kid from Kenya really needs to do is learn how to read a teleprompter.

As far as the "Birth Certificate" goes, what the heck's the difference? Back in those days a Hawaiian Birth Certificate was anyone's for the asking. Now if he had a car title, or dog license from the Hawaii of that era, that would be a different story. The real question is, "You're from Hawaii? And you don't surf?" Mighty suspicious.

I lost respect for Newt a long time ago, when he decided to start straddling issues. As a Historian, he of all people should understand why the question of 0bama's natural born qualifications under The Constitution are critical. As a politician, he has elected to bring up the issue, but again "straddle" it and take no real position.

Forget it Newtie, your day has long since come and gone.

Actually, I thought it was a pretty good way of approaching the subject indirectly. Coming out and saying he thinks Obama is a foreign-born Muslim, if that is indeed what he thinks secretly, would do nothing but get Gingrich and his every opinion ridiculed out of the public forum on the grounds that he is a “birther.”

But saying the Obama has the responsibility to allay concerns is reasonable, non-confrontational and at the same time plants doubts in the minds of more people about Obama’s birth and allegiance.

Please Newt, don’t run. Let us remember the Newt we used to know. The Newt you used to be. I don’t want to have to trash you. Please, just make speeches. No public office for you.

” As for Gingrich’s opinion, the former speaker insisted that Obama was “absolutely” born in the United States ..”

Based on what evidence ?
Does Newty not realize that Barry’s birth certificate is sealed by the state of Hawaii ?
Or is Newt confessing to a B and E into the Hawaiian vault to
view the documents ?
I say documents -plural -because the state of Hawaii
announced that not only do they have Barry’s long form birth certificate under seal,
they also have other “ original vital records “ under seal.
This is what drives me crazy about those allegedly on the right
who act as character witnesses for Barry
regarding his birth certificate.
These same people would probably agree that Barry is the most dishonest, sketchy , pathologically lying person to ever occupy the Oval Office.
But, they find it inconceivable that he would lie about his birth particulars ,
whatever they may be .
Suddenly, in this one solitary area , he’s the pillar of honesty.
It makes no logical or common sense.
Until Obama asks Hawaii to unseal all his records, none of can attest to Barry’s origin ,
one way or the other.

While I agree with your posting it is important to realize that Barry’s legitimacy was never in question. By his own admission he was the son of a British/Kenyan subject and an ‘underage’ (for the purpose of transferring citizenship) mother. He was never qualified under the Constitution regardless of where he was born. This fraud has been pushed on the American people for the sole purpose of advancing the “Progressive” agenda. They have now almost 99% succeeded.

Gingrich is certainly not my choice for president! I question why FOX features him constantly. Another case where we must judge on actions rather than words. Although they do say they are fair and balanced, do we ever see a true Conservative, such as Dr. Keyes, featured even occasionally on that channel?

His conservative side is not very conservative in truth.

Rolling Stone asserted that in an article about Newt 25 years ago. I thought they were lying for effect, to undermine and demoralize conservatives, but had to concede that if they had campaign materials from 12 years earlier documenting Newt's positioning in his first run for Congress as a Rockefeller Republican (like George H.W. Bush in Texas about the same time), then I had to respect the record, and I took an asterisk next to Newt's name. As time went by, I gradually erased the asterisk as he took down Speaker Jim Wright of Fort Worth over Wright's lobbyist-cash-funnel book deal, and led the Contract with America slate to victory in 1994.

In truth, anyone who read and believed that old Rolling Stone article would have been unsurprised by the Great El Foldo that the Contract Republicans did after they got beaten up by Slick and Beast and Little Tommy Dasschole in the 1995 Government Shutdown Coup. They'd at least have been prepared by a foundational lack of faith in the faithfulness of mortal politicians.

I don't watch Fox cable, but does Glenn Beck count? How about interviews with Sarah? I thought they'd done interviews with Sarah Palin.

Conservatives should have noticed that Newton Gingrich was either the only one or among two or three votes for Nelson A. Rockefeller from the GA delegation at the 1968 Republican Convention in Miami Beach. They nominated Richard M. Nixon, and he copied LBJ!!!!! The GOP always leaves us flat.
