Lost is a reason not to watch TV.

Ok here’s the summary:

Locke turned out to be transexual,
the hatch is where they conduct alien experiments,
Shannon is the wife of Locke
Sawyer becomes the President of the United States
Kate ends up in a mental hospital
the smoke monster is the ghost of a pirate who died on the island

You have your typical "redneck"(Sawyer), "Conservative"(Shannon), "religious wacko"(John Locke), and the rest of the cast and motley crue of social rejects and garden variety criminals.

You're reading a lot of things into the series that aren't there, and your impressions of the characters you name are pretty far off. "Lost" was by no means a perfect series, but political ideology wasn't the point of the story.

It’s probably too late for your family, since they’ve already watched the first season and bought the second, but if anyone were going to ask me whether they should watch this show, I would tell them not to bother (I watched the whole series). The first two seasons are pretty good, but all those mysteries that keep you intrigued? They will not be answered at the end. At all. The silly ending convinced me that the shows writers had no idea what they were doing the whole time - they were just making stuff up as they went. Supposedly, they knew what the final scene was going to be when they started the show, and I believe them, but that doesn’t mean that they had any idea of what they were going to do between the first and last episodes. The whole series was one of the biggest con jobs in television history, and most likely you and your whole family will be extremely disappointed by the time you reach the final episode.

It just get’s crazier and crazier, involving time warps and alternate realities, and that kind of thing. The consensus after it was all over was, “They were all dead the whole time”, or some quibbling version of that. My wife watched it, and I saw some of the first season episodes because she watched that straight through on DVD.

I stopped watching it in the 2nd year. Recently I viewed the closing episode on Hulu.

http://www.hulu.com/lost

It was exactly as I suspected — the writers were not expected to make any sense at all. So I felt vindicated in my decision to quit watching it.

It could prove entertaining if you watch the last episode and then when your family watches the others, you can point out, “oh, that doesn’t make sense because in the end, Jack just goes into the cave himself” or that kinda stuff and your family will see how ridiculous the series was.

If you want a good series, check out NCIS.

The Island is NOT purgatory. Lostis not a show for people who want canned entertainment or shows where people get voted off, and I liked it. I also like 24, but they are completely different shows. If you’ve only seen the first or 2nd season on Lost, you know very little of the story.

Outside of my local evening news, there is not one TV show we watch on the alphabet channels. The only show I do watch regularly is on the History channel, and that's Pawn Stars. Other than that its Fox News, something from Netflix, or a movie or TV show from my huge 2000+ DVD library.

For me, it was the best television series ever produced. Right now, I’m hooked on Fringe.

New Age crap..I wasted too much of my life on this show to find this out. Do not do the same (Plus J.J. Abrams is a big lib).

I’ve never seen a single second of ‘Lost’, but can I presume the “J.J.” you mentioned is J. J. Abrams? All I know about J.J. Abrams is that he/she is behind the show ‘Fringe’, which is the best show on TV.
