"State of emergency declared in North Carolina," the WECT News 6 headline informs us. "Governor Bev Perdue has declared a State of Emergency for North Carolina in anticipation of Hurricane Earl's arrival."

From blogger John Jacob H:

"Upon Governor Beverly Perdue’s declaration of a State Of Emergency on September 1, 2010 Dove Hunters, Concealed Carry Handgun Licensees, Target Shooters and all other gunowners cannot possess, transport or use firearms off their personal property as per N.C. Gen. Stat. § 14-288.7"

Here's what the statute says:

"§ 14?288.7. Transporting dangerous weapon or substance during emergency; possessing off premises; exceptions.

"(a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, it is unlawful for any person to transport or possess off his own premises any dangerous weapon or substance in any area:

The sound you hear is not the roar of the wind but of the Founding Fathers rolling over in their graves.

The same reason as most of the original gun laws -- to disarm blacks.

FREE FOR ALL!

In other words:

“Calling all bums, thugs, gang members and degenerates:
The citizens of North Carolina are devastated and unarmed do what you will with them.

Have fun and thank you for visiting the Kitty Hawk state!”

So what are gun owners who are evacuating supposed to do? Leave their guns behind at home for looters to get them?

One thing to note: In New Orleans after Katrina and only the thugs had firearms, there was looting, burglary, murder, mayhem. Across the river in Mississippi where law abiding citizens exercised their Second Amendment rights, there was very little trouble. You decide.

*So what are gun owners who are evacuating supposed to do? Leave their guns behind at home for looters to get them?*

Or stay in their homes and get killed by the weather.

Someone needs to force politicians to pass logic and common sense classes before they are allow to take their oath of office.

Whenever I see these laws one phrase comes to mind.

“Better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6”. Only a fool would comply with this law.

North Carolina is clearly a blue state. There is no denying it. A Democratic Governor, two Democratic Senators, voted for Obama.....why do people keep saying that North Carolina is red state? If North Carolina is a red state than I guess Mass must be too since they have at least on Republican Senator. I truly was shocked to see that North Carolina voted for a Democratic Governor.

I wouldn’t expect anybody to comply with this “law”.

Here’s a thought-why don’t they just prohibit looting, murder and mayhem? Wouldn’t that be a more direct approach?

I guess that was so the LEOs would have less people to worry about as looters. If you were caught, then it seems you would have been considered a looter.

The cosmically STUPID voters of NC strike again. They elect officials who pass and enforce laws like this. This sort of thing doesnt occur w/o voter consent. All I can imagine is they agree this is how it should be.

This is bullsh1t law and ought to be ignored as it is unconstitutional, unsound and also just plain unsafe.

That’s what gets me. It is a safety issue to leave your guns behind. Not only for you but how do you ensure they don’t wind up in criminals’ hands once you’re gone?

F#cking retarded.

This is another law which I would love to put under front of the nose of NRA supporters who always say “where would gun owners be without the NRA?”
