The Dangers of Under Confidence
DickMorris.com ^ | 10.4.2010 | Dick Morris

Posted on 10/04/2010 10:29:58 PM PDT by JSDude1

Just as when the Republican establishment wrote off Scott Brown’s effort to capture “Ted Kennedy’s” seat in the Senate, the Washington Republicans may be under estimating the number of seats the GOP can capture in the House of Representatives.

Over confidence is not a danger. Everybody is working as hard as they can to elect Republicans all over America. Nobody is apathetic on the right. The only indifference and passivity in the nation is on the left. But under confidence – writing off seats that we can win – is a huge obstacle to further progress.

The swath of destruction Obama has cut through our economy, banking system, manufacturing base, and medical profession is so broad and ugly that Republicans and Independents everywhere are determined to end his mandate by electing a Republican Congress in 2010. Seats that Republicans had no chance to win in previous elections are suddenly in play. With scores of Democratic incumbent Congressmen polling at under 50% of the vote, the possibilities for Republican gains are enormous.

But Republican funding and tactical focus is having a hard time keeping pace with the political developments on the ground. Handicappers like Cook Political Report are slow in switching their predictions quickly enough as the Republican wave sweeps through the nation. GOP national committees and PACs run the risk that they will concentrate too much money on races that are already won, leaving opportunities to rot on the vine in other districts.

Even though I hate Rinos when we sent money from Montana. We knew that this was going to be a moral death blow to the Socialists who were walking through the house and senate with their evil agenda. Browns win whether you like him or not was a pivotal moment in our history.

Morris seems dead on this election cycle. I like his aggressive forward looking plan. I hope his ideas pan out.

I’m also just a little fed up with Rush. I know he addressed this the other day, but it still bothers me. On one hand he continually says this election is pivitol...we must vote and get conservatives elected, but then throws cold water on it when he says (paraphrased): “even if we win, it will still play into Obama’s hand.” OK, Rush, we want you to speak the truth, but this outlook isn’t going to help voter turnout! He did the same thing on todays show. I tell you, we conservatives are just programmed to believe our lot in life is to lose!

I know, I’m going to catch hell for critizing Rush! ;-)

Too bad John Bonior, the Senate Minority Leader when he was first asked about a plan to remove Obamacare said he doesn't want to be hasty. Why give up this new found power over regulating American healthcare policy and finance! It's just too big a plum for the anointed class to surrender until they've milked their trillions out of it too. Fair's fair the Democrats got their turn. Bonior wants his cut.

With leaders like these we can't win for losing. We must remove them all from office. No more professional politicians

I agree with you about Rush. In the past, Rush has always said you can’t win by losing, ie, “if we let them win this time, we’ll REALLY cream them the next election cycle.” I for one don’t think a 80-100 House/12-15 seat Senate swing plays into Obama’s hands. Unlike Clinton, who was politically deft and successfully used the Oklahoma City bombings to cruise to re-election, Obama is politically clueless and incompetent. If we nominate Sarah Palin, she’ll wipe the floor with him....let’s not nominate Mitt “the RINO king” Romney.

I agree with you both, I think this election is just the “tip of the iceburg”.

What he is saying is that 2010 is only the beginning. We can’t achieve victory because there aren’t enough Senate seats in play this time. If we lose the Senate, then that means we have to win that many more seats in 2012 to get to 60. He knows that the best we can do is win as many as possible this time, and finish the job in 2012 by also getting the presidency. Obama will blame the Republican Congress for his failures no matter if we are majority or minority. He blames us now and we don’t have enough seats to do anything. It’s a hollow argument because the people will have elected our side to stop him from proceeding with his agenda.

Even after winning everything in 2012, that will still only be the start of the hard work. We will have to have a leader who really means to cut government spending and that means cutting programs and departments, and we will have to have senators and reps that have the spine to back her up.

Spot on!

I think I know what Rush is saying, but nevertheless, it sounds negative and contradictory. I'm getting fed up with him saying this over and over.

Yes, I understand what you’re saying (and what he explained the other day), but it’s not going to help motivate people. Well, maybe it will help motivate through the fear factor.

He was saying the same thing today, and frankly I just turned my radio off. It’s not that i don’t want to hear the truth, but it does nothing but demoralize me. If people feel that voting in Novemeber and 2012 is not going to have any effect...or a negative effect, they won’t vote.

From what he said the other day, he must have got bombarded with comments about the hopelessness of his coments.

Thank you!! I too get so disgusted and fed up with how so many people on our side instantly plunge into a state of despair and hand-wringing every single time they see a poll or news story that supposedly benefits Obama or the Democrats. We have ENORMOUS momentum going into this election and I don’t see ANYTHING that’s going to depress the massive turnout on our side!

Meanwhile, I marvel at how left-wingers never seem to possess a self-defeatist attitude. Visit a message board like the Daily Kos or Democratic Underground (if you can stand subjecting yourself to such sewage) and you’ll notice no matter how horrible the news is for their side, the leftists always seem to keep thinking they’re ultimately going to prevail. Yeah, I know they’re a completely delusional and kooky bunch who live in a parallel universe unlike the real world here on planet earth, but still it’s a striking contrast!

“No more professional politicians”

Term limits solves this. The American people should make it a referendum for 2012.

It doesnt take a brain surgeon to figure out what a Dem POTUS would do (strategy-wise) if Congress goes to the Pubbies, but don’t let that deter your enthusiasm.

As Mark Levin has said, this must be the FIRST election of many where the socialists are kicked to the curb.
